A note from OUSA President Kris Beecroft

I want to give you a quick update on the Board of Directors’ latest activities. On December 3-4, the entire Board met in Northern Virginia to be updated on the financial state of OUSA, talk about our goals and visions for orienteering in the US, and learn how we can structure our committees to help achieve our goals. We were also presented with some great marketing ideas for reaching a new, broader audience to bring more people into the US orienteering family.

Since the retreat, we have published a review by the Finance committee and the proposed 2017 budget. You can find both documents here. The Board will be voting on the budget on our next phone-in meeting on Dec. 19. This budget vote is critical because it will include a decision on whether or not OUSA can continue to afford an Executive Director. This is a very important decision, and I encourage you to contact me or any Board member to let your opinions be known.

Our next face-to-face meeting is at the Georgia Navigator Cup in January. Although a formal agenda has not been set, I’m sure we’ll have continued discussions around the 2017 budget and the programs that we need to support. As always, all Board meetings are open to OUSA members, and I encourage you join us.

The 2016 Annual Fund Needs Your Help!

We would like to thank all of you who have already given to the Annual Fund this year.  But we are far short of goal for the year. We need to raise $22,500 to meet our fundraising goal for the year.  Please consider giving by December 31st. We appreciate it. Just go to www.orienteeringusa.org and click on “Support Orienteering”.

As always, thanks for your consideration and support.

Orienteer of the Year Nominations Open

It is time to nominate deserving orienteers for OUSA’s annual Orienteer of the Year Awards. They are open to all disciplines, ages and genders; you can see the announcement of last year's winners here.

This year the categories are: Orienteer of the Year, Junior of the Year, Comet (Newcomer) of the Year, and Team of the Year.

Final Reminder - Apply Today for the 2017 Wilson AwardsIain Wilson photo

Here is your final reminder to apply for the Annual Wilson Awards.

Applications for the $1,000 Wilson Community Growth Grant are now being accepted. This grant provides funds to develop and implement programs aimed at expanding orienteering opportunities for children and youth. Eligible applicants partner with a local club or nonprofit to build creative, sustainable programming. Funds may be used for equipment, transportation and other appropriate uses.
