SLOW FOOD YOUTH NETWORK DECEMBER NEWSLETTER
Good morning and season's greetings on this bright and frosty December day!
We're keeping this month's events to a minimum as it's a busy time of year, however we will be toasting the first year of SFYN events with SFYN Festive Drinks on the 20th December. There are also a few tickets left for this Wednesday's forthcoming Terra Madre Tales evening organised collaboratively by Slow Food Edinburgh and SFYN Scotland which is part of Scotland's Terra Madre day celebrations. We do hope you can join us!

SFYN Festive Drinks

When: Tuesday 20th December, From 6pm
Where: Salt Horse, 57-61 Blackfriars St, Edinburgh, EH1 1NB

Join us for informal drinks to toast the year past and celebrate a busy year for those interested in good, clean and fair food in Scotland.

It's a busy time of year for most so we've chosen Salt Horse in Edinburgh, a small cosy bar, which is handy for access to Waverly Station and has a great selection of craft beers and food. Please RSVP on our  Facebook event page to let us know if you plan to attend so we can keep an eye on numbers!

Hope to see you there, otherwise please keep an eye on your inbox for news of our 2017 SFYN Scotland programme!

Terra Madre Tales Evening

Slow Food Edinburgh and the Slow Food Youth Network Scotland are delighted to celebrate Terra Madre Day with our upcoming Terra Madre Tales evening on Wednesday 7th December at Ostara Cafe, Leith.

We'll be hearing from some of Scotland's delegates to 2016's Terra Madre gathering in Turin who'll be sharing their stories and experience with us. In celebration of Slow Food's current Love the Earth,
Defend the Future
campaign we'll be enjoying a delicious selection of artisan cheeses from Scotland and beyond, together with a taste of Scottish charcuterie, kindly provided by Scottish delegate Rachel Hammond of Hammond Charcuterie.

We'll also be joined by Scottish cheese expert and Ark of Taste Coordinator Wendy Barrie to tell us a bit more about the work of the artisan cheesemaker. Tickets are £15 plus booking fee and all proceeds from the night will be donated to support Errington Cheese

Join us for a cosy, intimate evening of storytelling over cheese, wine and candlelight.

Ticket includes:
Cheeseboard of artisan cheeses, bread, oatcakes, fruit and chutney
Taste of Hammond Charcuterie
Glass of wine (more drinks can be bought on the night)

You can see a clip from 2014's Terra Madre Tales here. We hope you'll join us and be inspired! A few limited places are available. Book tickets now on Eventbrite.

Slow Food Scotland AGM

It's hard to believe that it's already just over a year since the launch meeting for Slow Food Scotland.

Join Slow Food members across Scotland for the annual members' meeting on Sunday 11th December in Perth at the Parklands Hotel. The meeting will begin at 12:30 with lunch (menu below), followed by a full agenda from 2pm, ending by 4pm.

The event will be a chance to look back, celebrate achievements, meet members from across the country, and talk about the future.

As well as a look back on progress to date, plans for the future and financial situation, there will be a focus on the achievements of new and existing Scottish convivial (groups), the Slow Food Youth Network, and Terra Madre delegates. There'll also be updates on programmes like the Ark of Taste and Chef Alliance.

You can find the agenda for the day here, and the financial report here. Minutes from the previous members meeting can be downloaded here.

Menu - No Slow Food event is complete without some good food to share. Our Chef Alliance host Graeme Pallister has come up with this great two-course menu for £15:

Potato soup, Arran mustard Chantilly & corned partridge.

Griersons organic farmed beef shin, scotch beef tongue, Anster cheddar and neep gratin, horseradish dumpling.

(There will be a vegetarian option for those who specify on booking.)

Booking - directly with the hotel on 01738 622451. This is necessary as places are limited, so it will be first come - first served.

Remember, if you don't want to eat, but do still want to attend the AGM, you're more than welcome. Please arrive for 2pm sharp, and if you could let the hotel know about your intentions, it will help greatly with our planning.

Location - Parklands Hotel, 2 St Leonards Bank, Perth PH2 8EB. We have deliberately chosen Perth for its accessibility to the maximum number of members across Scotland. The Perth train station is just two minutes walk from the venue.

And finally....

A massive thank you to all the local businesses, individuals and other community groups who generously provided time, venues and opportunities to let members of the Slow Food Youth Network to find out a little bit more about how our complex food system works in Scotland. It's been a fun-filled and inspiring first year for many of our members and our group of volunteer co-ordinators absolutely could n't have done it without you!

Let's pay this generosity back by making a pledge to support local this Christmas and over the next year. Some great ideas are featured in this Christmas Manifesto from www.totallylocally.org.

Enjoy a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

 SFYN Scotland

What is the Slow Food Youth Network?

The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) is an international network of young people who bring about changes in the field of food production and consumption. It was founded by a number of enthusiastic and motivated young people with a passion for good, clean and fair food, and with an interest in sustainability issues.

We are the world's future leaders, entrepreneurs, farmers and consumers. The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) was founded to make youth familiar with Slow Food's philosophy that says that all food should be Good, Clean and Fair. This means that food should be prepared with care and respect, grown as sustainable as possible and that the farmers and producers should get a fair wage.

SFYN raises awareness among young citizens and consumers to encourage and mobilize them in making responsible choices. It wants them to take part in the public debate about current issues, such as how to feed the world, what to do about food waste, and how to produce food as sustainable as possible.
