4SSC December Newsletter
Updates from our Head Coach …Kim

November 2016 Report

November started with the Winter Regionals in Portsmouth. We took Rebecca and Fe who despite having just returned from the intensive training at the warm weather tour produced some good results. It was a shame Aaron had an accident and was unable to compete, I hope you get back swimming soon.

COSC held the next in their Developments Meets, where there were some outstanding swims and a plethora of PBs and heat wins.

Other swimmers competed well at both the Welsh Meet and at the W&DSC Distance Meet. There were some very good swims, however, I feel more benefit is gained when part of a larger team.

The month has finished with a great COSC L3 Meet, the results speak for themselves giving countless County times. I unfortunately missed this but was kept informed by various means.

Once again a great big thank you to all Coaches, TMs and Officials without whom we couldn’t compete and for covering for me whilst I was away.

We have had a several trials for new swimmers and observed the school gala at Sibford, this has now given us some new faces at training sessions.

Best of luck to all those racing on Sunday 11th at the CMK Xmas Cracker, County relay places are still available.

The 12th December is the FINAL closing date for County entries. Please ensure you have all studied your times and should you have either have a considered or accepted time for any event you SHOULD enter the Counties.

Once again we will be entering relay teams, those provisionally selected have been emailed and hopefully we will get accepted for all entries.

You haven’t been forgotten Eloise, get well soon and we’ll see you back in the pool.

Laura, as always, works extremely hard and sets an outstanding example to all and has now reached the Regional standard.

Annabel has been with us for a while, always working hard, leads her lane and ensures they go on time and don’t miss any sets. One to watch.

A word from our Chair …Rachel

There have been several galas since the last newsletter, bringing further successes for our swimmers. A big ‘thank you’ must go to John in stepped in at the last minute to support our swimmers on Saturday at the COSC Meet as well as to Clive for ‘standing in’ on Sunday as no other coaches were available at such short notice.  We really do appreciate all your support. Good luck to all of our swimmers racing at the CMK Christmas Cracker next weekend - the last chance to secure those County times!

The Christmas training schedule has just gone out as have the provisional County relay teams and it is hoped that all swimmers, particularly those swimming at Counties, will take advantage of the opportunity to retain their fitness levels over the festive season. So if you haven’t done so yet, please do book your slots as spaces are limited and will be on a strict ‘first come, first serve’ basis. Please note that the Christmas Eve session is in the MORNING and not 9-11 in the evening  as I’ve heard some mutterings about the timing of this session!

I look forward to seeing you at our 4SSC Christmas party on Thursday 15 December 1800 - 2030 at Kingham Hill. This will be instead of both of our Thursday regular training sessions at Kingham and Moreton as it is hoped that as many swimmers as possible will attend.

We are hoping to run our own Swim Camp in the UK during August 2017. Details are still being finalised but will be circulated shortly in order to gauge levels of interest.

I’d like to finish by thanking all our Coaches, Committee members, ‘Friends of 4SSC’, Team of Officials and all our supporters for all their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication over the past year.

That just leaves me to wish all our swimmers and their families a very Merry Christmas! We look forward to an exciting 2017!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

A warm welcome to our new swimmers:

Nathan Cutmore

Lily Melia

Thea Ransom

Samuel Herd

Val Parker (Masters)

We hope you enjoy your swimming!

Snorkels and nose clips

As of January 2017, all Competition, County & Regional swimmers will find it useful to have a snorkel and nose clip for training sessions. Masters and Platinum swimmers may also wish to use these, but they are not compulsory for these squads.

Here are a few recommended types. (Snorkels that drain at the bottom are best.)

Update from The Friends of 4SSC

A big thank you to those of you who came to help bag pack and promote the club last month at the Co-op In Chipping Norton.

In the 3 hours we were there we raised £295 which is a great amount of money and the swimmers that came did the club proud with their politeness and enthusiasm.

Thanks must also go to everyone who donated a prize for our festive themed tombola which was a hit with many of the customers.

Christmas Raffle

This year we are having  a Christmas raffle with the first prize being a hamper full of Christmas goodies (thanks to Philippa). Tickets will be sold leading up to the party at some training sessions and at the party for £1 a strip. The winning tickets will be drawn at the Christmas Party on Thursday the 15th of December.

The Christmas Party

The 4SSC Christmas party will be on Thursday the 15th of December at Kingham Hill School from 6 - 8.30. This is for everyone to attend and we kindly ask each swimmer to bring a raffle prize and plate of food to share.

Both usual Thursday training sessions at Kingham and Moreton will be replaced by the Xmas party on this date.

We would like to again thank you for all continued support this year and hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New Year.

Kind Regards
The Friends of the 4SSC
