CFPC on Parliament Hill:
Dr. Francine Lemire, Dr. José Pereira, Mr. Artem Safarov and Mr. Eric Mang have participated in meeting with federal government officials this month on Parliament Hill. They met with senior aides to Health Minister Dr. Jane Philpott, as well as NDP MP and Health Critic Mr. Don Davies, and CPC MP and Health Critic Dr. Colin Carrie.

50 Years of Medicare

Half a century has passed since Allan J. MacEachen, Prime Minister Pearson’s Minister of National Health and Welfare, introduced the Medical Care Act. In 1966, MacEachen expressed his belief that the state had a role to play in ensuring social security and equality, stating:

“...All Canadians should be able to obtain health services of high quality according to their needs for such services and irrespective of their ability to pay.”
