What does it mean for the church to live as a RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE?

As we continue our Advent series, "Bring Forth the Light: Living as God’s People in a Season of Waiting," we are examining different characteristics of what we as God’s people are to be embody as we await the day when the true light of Christ will at last extinguish the darkness from this present world.

This week, we will look at how the Christmas story calls us to be a people who reflect the righteousness of God. The word “righteousness” is used all over the Old Testament to describe God and the way in which His people are called to live. In the New Testament, the word “righteousness” takes on new meaning in light of the salvation that Christ has brought to the world. In particular, Paul’s letters (especially Galatians and Romans) reflect that, in Christ, God’s people become “righteous,” not by their own works or efforts but as they come into relationship with Jesus Christ. In other words, the “righteousness” of God speaks of both His power to deliver us from sin as well as the free gift He offers to us in Christ in transforming our lives by His mercy and grace.

Missionary of the Month
Ben & Caroline Fisher

Ben and Caroline Fisher work with MFI and provide logistical support to the missions, their families and the people of the West Indies in order to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Ben works as a pilot/mechanic for MFI and Caroline manages the home as well as homeschooled their three children Jonas, Lucy and Miles. They are expecting their fourth child soon.

PRAYER REQUESTS:
  • Please be in prayer for Caroline's pregnancy as she nears the last month. She is really uncomfortable and in pain.
  • Pray for Ben as he is getting trained to help out as a loader (in addition to pilot/mechanic). This basically involves loading the planes in the correct configurations the day before a flight.
