DEVOTIONAL

Advent Week One:

     One of the discussion points for this week out of our Advent Devotional, is to read through the lyrics of O Come, O Come Emmanuel, and talk through what stands out to you during this season? So here are the lyrics:

Oh, come, oh, come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, our Wisdom from on high,
Who ordered all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
and teach us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, oh, come, our Lord of might,
Who to your tribes on Sinai's height
In ancient times gave holy law,
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come O Rod of Jesse's stem,
From ev'ry foe deliver them
That trust your mighty pow'r to save;
Bring them in vict'ry through the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, O Key of David, come,
And open wide our heav'nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, our Dayspring from on high,
And cheer us by your drawing nigh,
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Oh, bid our sad divisions cease,
And be yourself our King of Peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Join us to 'Experience Christmas Peace' in the midst of all the craziness that this season can lead to. Our intention is to create a space with seasonally calm music, art and a devotional (or bring your own reading - or don't read at all and just be). This is a drop in and out time. Stay for as long or short as your soul needs. We will have this service every Wednesday during Advent (Nov.30; Dec 7,14,21)

MEMBERSHIP CLASS
At the center of the universe is a relationship. This relationship is between persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. By this relationship and for this relationship you were created. In this membership/inquirers class we will explore and dialogue about this relationship, as well as our particular human relationships in which we each collectively and individually might share in at Headwaters as we embody and enact our calling.
This is a half a day class with lunch provided, so please sign up.  Saturday, December 10

NEW DAY
SAME TIME
This is a quote from this past Sunday and I think really sums up the heart of what we are desiring for this process to be as we journey on this Vitality Pathway. This is a quote from John Jefferson David's book, Meditation and Communion with God. The context of this quote is from Hebrews 6:4 where we are told we have tasted the future that is spilling into the future.

Already the life of the new creation is spilling from the future into the present, and, as John Davis says, is “made available to the church for its ministry and mission.”
Here is this well said statement from Professor Davis
 “Alas, all too often the church today is being run on the natural energies of this age, rather than on the supernatural energy loosed by the resurrection of Jesus and the descent of the Holy Spirit! If we have lost our heavenly imagination, we will be disinclined to access, by faith and prayer, he heavenly energy from above.” And then he asks this piercing question we should continually be asking ourselves:

“Which energy does your church run on?”
