Global Heel Shamira Lukomwa ’15 Links Art and Advocacy in Nairobi

For Shamira Lukomwa, working in Africa is personal. It was this passion that led Lukomwa to take what she learned as a double major in global studies and communication studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to the streets of Nairobi, Kenya, where she uses art to empower Kenyans.

“Thanks to the Chancellor's Global Education Fund, I could intern in Guatemala with the education and health care center Familias de Esperanza. My experience opened my eyes to the intimate link between public health, education and well-being internationally – a truly invaluable lesson. It was also my first time abroad!”
