FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION (FAO) CONFERENCE IN ROME

This past month (November 22-23), one of SAWBO's co-Directors, Dr. Barry Pittendrigh, attended and was a panelist at the International Year of Pulses Global Dialogues Conference at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome, Italy. The SAWBO team has a longstanding interest and commitment to working on projects associated with the production and storage of pulse crops, including beans and cowpea.

ANIMATIONS IN OUR VIDEO LIBRARY

We have over 500 different animations in our Video Library, with over 50 different topics, in more than 100 languages variants. Here are two animations that we would like everyone to share this month:

Colorectal Cancer in Mongolian

COLORECTAL CANCER PREVENTION IN MONGOLIAN

Colorectal cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells in the colon or rectum divide uncontrollably, ultimately forming a malignant tumor. Screening can prevent the cancer from forming, or delay the onset.

Drip Irrigation in Creole Accent from Haiti

DRIP IRRIGATION IN CREOLE ACCENT FROM HAITI

Drip Irrigation is a technique that allows you to consistently water your entire crop. This technique is especially helpful during a drought or dry season. This technique must be combined with Raised Planting Beds.

WE ARE WORKING ON IT

These are some of the projects we are working on that will be available soon in our Video Library. Please help us work faster and reach our goals. A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated, and goes a long way towards ensuring the completion of these and other projects.

SHARING KNOWLEDGE USING THE SAWBO DEPLOYER APP

This animation will show how the SAWBO Deployer app can travel with our collaborators to help spread knowledge to many people and communities across the globe.

LUNG CANCER SCREENING AND PREVENTION

In collaboration with University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), we are creating a lung cancer animation that talks about screening and prevention techniques.

HIP DYSPLASIA

Hip dysplasia is a problem from birth where the hip joint has not formed properly. Over time, children born with a dislocated hip will have a limp. If diagnosed early, this condition is very easily treated.

ZIKA VIRUS TEAMS UP WITH OTHER VIRUSES

"Two studies out Monday show that the Zika virus may not be working alone in causing strange infections in South America. It may be getting help from dengue and chikungunya, too."

KEEP THE FOCUS ON GRAIN PULSES

"Consumer awareness of the nutritional and dietary benefits of pulses, the edible seeds of leguminous plants and notably including lentils, chickpeas, cowpeas and many dry beans, remains inadequate and more must be done to promote their role in food systems(...)"

GIVE LEGUMES A LEG UP

"Fall management of legumes – particularly alfalfa – can make or break next year’s crop. Preventing winterkill is critical."
