Thank you for reading my newsletter this year, and thanks particularly to everyone who has written with feedback. I really appreciate it, and it helps me make sure I’m addressing the issues you want to read about. In this, the December issue, I’ve collected links to the most popular pieces throughout the year, in case you missed any, or want to be reminded of some key themes:
Looking ahead, there’s much uncertainty, created not only by the big political surprises we’ve seen, but also by continuing technological and social change. I don’t envy the editors of The Economist’s “The Year in 2017!”
In such times, it can seem difficult to know what to plan for. As I see it, it’s actually more important for many businesses to figure out what stance to take. The idea is to position yourself to best exploit circumstances, whichever of the range of scenarios materialise. Like a goalie, you want to be centred, and balanced, but also on your toes.
That’s why in the New Year I’ll be focusing on what I call the Use What You Have™ stance. This fundamentally entrepreneurial approach is based on the idea that the better you are at releasing untapped potential from your existing resources, the better prepared you are going to be, whatever the conditions.
More from me in January. In the meantime, have a Merry Christmas, and a very happy and successful 2017!
