MESSAGE FROM THE CENTER DIRECTOR, CIARÁN Ó CUINN
MEDRC Water Research has tripled in size in only three years and 2016 was by far our busiest year since 1996 when the organization was established. Every day seems to have brought a visiting delegation, a training session, a workshop or new research project on the search for solutions to fresh water scarcity that unites this region.
 
The past while has seen the Center fill up with new RO plants, labs, solar stills, parabolic solar collectors, weather stations, solar farms and even our very own Omani Falaj system. READ MORE HERE

 
MEDRC to Promote Environmentally Friendly Desalination Techniques for Farmers and Small-Scale Plants

Three new evaporation ponds have been built at MEDRC HQ as part of an initiative to find more environmentally friendly ways to dispose of brine from desalination plants.

In close collaboration with researchers from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) this initiative aims to assist and train Oman Farmers in adopting such methods. Our goal is to enable operators of small-scale desalination plants for agriculture: READ MORE HERE

Oman Water Society RO Desalination Research Workshop Organized at MEDRC HQ, Muscat
 

Oman Water Society (OWS) has organized a research workshop on RO desalination at MEDRC HQ in North Al-Hail, in close cooperation with MEDRC Water Research. Representatives from the Ministry of water and local municipalities, and private sector attended this 2-days workshop that aimed at introducing the participants to the reverse osmosis desalination and its challenges in the world, and specifically in Oman. READ MORE HERE

MEDRC Constructs Ayni Falaj as part of Youth Water Awareness Program

Part of our mission to find solutions to fresh water scarcity is to promote awareness of water conservation methods and traditions. We also seek to highlight the deep historical respect for water conservation in the cultures of our region.

The Falaj is an original Omani irrigation system, dating back thousands of years and deeply-rooted in the country’s culture and history. As part of our Youth Water Awareness Program we will show visitingschools the workings of the Aflaj and discuss the importance of water and water conservation. READ MORE HERE
