More than One-Third of the Population Would Stop Economic Growth to Achieve Sustainability

A study by researchers of the ICTA-UAB assesses Spanish public opinion on economic growth, the environment and prosperity. Eighty percent of respondents consider that growth is necessary to create jobs, and 40 percent believe that “a good life without economic growth is possible”. (+info)

ICTA-UAB is contributing to "la Caixa" Fellowship INPhINIT Programme with 10 PhD projects to host the fellows

INPhINIT is a new doctoral fellowship programme devoted to attracting international Early-Stage Researchers to the top Spanish research centres in the areas of Bio and Health Sciences, Physics, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. (+info)

La UAB y Abertis set up the Campus UAB for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves

The Abertis Foundation and the UAB have set up a Campus for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves at the UAB. The new campus is attached to the UNESCO International Centre on Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves based at Castellet Castle (Barcelona), which is in turn the headquarters of the Abertis Foundation. The campus is coordinated by ICTA-UAB. These new synergies stem from the desire to create a forum for research, information, awareness and innovation within the realm of Mediterranean Biospheres Reserves. (+info)

ARTICLE - RESEARCH
Most published sensitivity analyses are wrong

Sensitivity analyses, which relate the variability of output values to the input values of a process, are applied to a very broad range of research fields. ICTA-UAB researcher Andrea Saltelli observed however that 96% of these types of analyses published in scientific journals are erroneous. Saltelli defends that many researchers construct incorrect analysis models because they overlook factors which are considered to be well-known for statisticians. (+info)

Do you want to maximise the local impact of your research? Workshop on Responsible Research and Innovation

PhD students and junior postdocs interested in improving the social impact of their research have the opportunity of enrolling in the workshop “Responsible Research and Innovation: How to maximise the local impact of my research?” which will begin next Wednesday, December 14, at the UAB Theatre.The workshop is part of the PERFORM Project, with the involvement of ICTA-UAB. (+info)

The students of the Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability (SAES) of the ICTA-UAB, Lara Peralta and Alicia Fernández, have been awarded a Fundación Iberdrola España Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies in Energy and Environment in Spain. (+info)

Arhuaco’s community mamo Calixto Suarez visited the ICTA-UAB to share the message of the mamos, spiritual leaders of the community, on the importance of living according to the Law of Origin to maintain harmony and balance in the world and for the good of humanity. (+info)

The Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) is hosting an international workshop on urban environmental gentrification that will culminate in a free daylong inquiry into these questions. The event, to be held February 17, 2017 in Barcelona is free and open to the public. (+info)

The Healthy Cities and Environmental Justice lab of the Epidemiology and Public Health Program is organizing a new seminar and discussion series on critical urban health. The seminars will take place the first Thursdays of each month from 1 pm to 2.30 pm at the PRBB in Barcelona, as part of a new collaboration between ICTA-UAB and the IMIM Research Institute. (+info)
