Recommended read:

I've just finished Karthika Nair's Until the Lions (Arc, 2016). A wonderful reworking of tales from the Mahabharta in verse. I knew next to nothing about the Mahabharata, but heard Karthika at Ledbury Poetry Festival and was blown away by her talent and imagination. It's an epic book in every sense of the word. https://www.arcpublications.co.uk/books/karthika-nair-until-the-lions-544

Hello and welcome

This Saturday...
3 December, I'll be reading eight new poems at the Arnolfini in Bristol at 2.30 pm, as part of my residency there. The reading is free. Here's one of the new poems, 'Spared', along with a little of how it was written. I hope you'll enjoy it. http://www.arnolfini.org.uk/blog/katrina-naomi-poetry-in-progress/

Arvon
I'll be running a week's Arvon course, 'Serious Play', with the ever-inspiring Jen Hadfield on 29 May - 3 June 2017. Our course is at The Hurst in Shropshire, and will feature collaborations with art, music, dance, private writing time and one-to-one feedback on your poetry. Penny Pepper is the guest poet. Bursaries are available. http://www.arvon.org/course/poetry-30/

Festivals
Have you heard about the new Birmingham poetry and spoken word festival, Verve? I'll be reading with the award-winning Mona Arshi and Kim Moore, and running a 'Saying the Unsayable' workshop. Verve is 16-19 February and tickets are already selling. See you there. http://www.katrinanaomi.co.uk/festival-bookings-for-2017

And you might like
Everyone's got a poem that's been roundly rejected that they still love, right? Here's a brand new poetry site for just those poems. The Salon of the Refused is the brainchild of Jacqueline Saphra and Norbert Hirschhorn. I love it. https://salonoftherefused.com/.

Happy reading, happy writing,
Katrina
