Helping each other
When we tried to fund our new games for the blind through a crowdfunding campaign, in Greece, in 2016, we knew we were taking a huge risk.
The country is going through a hardship that is unprecedented for the younger generations, there capital controls were really restricting, the power of our voice was not strong enough to reach out to many people...
But you were there and showed us your trust.
So we delivered results once more, as we promised, as you requested.
3 new games for the blind are ready, free and being played as you read this.
Trust us, there is much more to come :-)

In this issue, read also how:
We help people with cerebral palsy with Talk and Play;
We try to crowdsource the future of Europe;
We assure quality vocational training for people with ADHD, and
Our fantastic volunteers bring results.

Christmas is coming. May we all be blessed, and help each other. That's why we are here.
We create solutions and bring results.
Together.
You helped us, we did it!

What we have achieved so far:
  • Thanks to your support of our crowdfunding effort, we created 3 more games for blind children: Noah’s Ark and two more educational, musical games*
  • Almost 100 people and institutions downloaded the games within a couple of weeks!
  • We shared lessons learned through our journey, so that we can help others, too. Read them here
  • We made the games available for everyone. Download for free here (in Greek).
  • The games are great for people without a visual impairment, too. Try them to learn musical instruments, to teach kids, to have fun!
  • See the full results here

Next Steps

We are not going to stop! We are looking for resources to respond to the following requests by the community:

  • Create versions in other languages, as we did with the first three electronic games for blind children that we created, to significantly increase the impact ;
  • Give the opportunity to everyone to upload their own sounds and to create new games that will also be freely available to all ;
  • Allow for for online gaming.
* The 2 musical games have been created with WIND's support.

Talk and Play:
Communication, Entertainment & Training

In October we completed Talk and Play, our software platform that allows people with disabilities to Communicate, Have Fun and Play rehabilitation games! Here are some of the results:
  • 4 major Greek institutions already use it in their everyday practice
  • We donated 36 full systems (laptops, control systems and software) to end users
  • We drastically reduced the overall cost of the solution up to 95% !
  • More than 120 people have downloaded it from our site
  • We shared the Software for free and it's available for download here (in Greek)
  • We open sourced the hardware solution so anyone can create a DYI solution
And of course we will keep spreading results with professionals and families. Stay tuned for next steps!
The project has been developed by SciFY with the exclusive donation of Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Quality Vocational Education and Training for Students
with ADHD - Q4ADHD

We work to assure Quality of Vocational Education and Training of students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
We started working on Q4ADHD, our new EU project. So, we went to Sofia for a very productive kickoff meeting. Along with our partners, we aim to develop a European Quality Assurance Framework for VET and a concrete Toolkit for supporting VET providers in improving their VET offers ; assure that ADHD learners will enjoy quality training to become more employable.
The project's main priorities are to:
  • Promote a more inclusive  Vocational Education and Training (VET) education for learners with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), in order to reduce disparities in learning outcomes, to increase the employment rate of the graduates and to enhance completion rates in VET;
  • Develop Quality Assurance mechanisms and Tools in VET programmes for learners with ADHD, establishing specific measures to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the training delivered;
  • Support the professional environment of VET organizations, in particular for trainers, providing them examples of good practices and new working methods to be applied.

The project is funded by the ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME - KA2 - Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices - Strategic Partnerships for vocational education and training, AGREEMENT NUMBER – 2016-1-BG01-KA202-023714

We are crowdsourcing... EU's future!

  • Improve conditions for democratic participation of citizens in the European Union
  • Develop citizens' skills so they can participate properly and effectively in decision-making process
  • Establish collaborative relationship between European citizens and those who make the decisions in the EU
  • Make the processes of policy framing in the EU clear to citizens
  • Develop a framework where people can contribute to Europe's Future through crowdsourcing

We form communities
The power of the volunteers

These last 3 months, we started discovering how the power of trained and organized volunteers can addvalue to our work. We formed 4 specialized teams, started working together and the first joint results are already here!
  • We organized 3 SciFY Academies
  • We made sure that our new solutions for people with disabilities work properly
  • We are maximizing the impact of our projects
  • We have improved our e-presence
  • We reached out by participating in special events
  • We are working on developing new solutions
  • We shared our experiences through blog posts
  • We gathered educational material to share the knowledge with everyone
We want to thank our volunteers for helping us make our common dreams come true. Together we are learning how to become better by the day! Meet our volunteers here.
We freely share knowledge
Sharing #OpenKnowledge

Here are the main focus areas of the latest SciFY Academies:
  • Social Entrepreneurship
  • Big Data
  • Open Data
  • History of Science
And we are not stopping here! In 2017 we are about to focus in Entrepreneurship Competencies, Innovation and many more. Stay tuned here
Visual Storytelling Seminar for NGOs

We are organizing a 2 day seminar dedicated to NGOs and how they can share their story in the right way, depending our target group, the media, etc. In the seminar we will develop skills to produce engaging visual stories with video, images, data and interactive elements and to connect to our target groups more effectively.

The Seminar is organized by SciFY and Norsensus Mediaforum and is supported by the Bodossaki Foundation and the Programme "We Are All Citizens".
Maximizing the impact
at public events
  • In October we participated for two days at the eHealth Forum Festival in Technopolis, and we demonstrated how Talk and Play can help professionals, people with disabilities and their families.
