The City of Parkville is pleased to announce the interior renovations to the restrooms in English Landing Park have been completed.
 
In March 2015, the City received an outreach grant from Platte County Parks and Recreation for improvements to the English Landing Park restrooms. The original budget for the new restroom was $200,000 and the final design, presented to and approved by the Board of Aldermen in November 2015, had an estimated cost of $197,871.
 
The bids received in February 2016 exceeded the engineer’s estimate by approximately $100,000, which led the Board of Aldermen to reject all bids and evaluate options. The recommended option was to complete a full rehabilitation of the existing restroom with a key component to be making the restrooms and sidewalks compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
 
The rehabilitation project was divided into three tiers. In order to meet the deadline to receive the funds for the Platte County Outreach Grant, City staff recommended completing the first tier of improvements. The first tier included plumbing, carpentry, site construction and electrical work. The interior restroom rehabilitation was completed in November.
 
Mayor Johnston said “For many years, our residents have asked for nicer restroom facilities in English Landing Park. This year, we were finally able to find the funds to do the interior work. Exterior renovations will begin in the spring.”
 
The City held a ribbon cutting event on November 30, followed by a tour of the new facilities. Due to the impending cold weather, the restroom has been winterized and will reopen in spring 2017. A grand re-opening will be scheduled when the restroom reopens next spring.
