ACADEMICS

Midnight Madness for Seniors completing Extended Essays
Wednesday, December 14 at 5:00-8:00 pm
Seniors who are writing Extended Essays for the IB Diploma Programme are being hosted for a night in the Kouwenhoven Library at LTS by EE Coordinator Kim Rizio. Students will be fed and assisted in the final phases of writing their essays for submission. Contact Kim with questions.

 
COLLEGE GUIDANCE
TESTING
The January 21 SAT has a registration deadline of December 21.  This is the last testing opportunity for seniors applying to college for the fall of 2017.

PSAT SCORES
10th and 11th graders will be able to access their PSAT scores beginning December 12. Students should receive an email with directions on how to view their scores. Students who have issues accessing their scores should see Scott Magrath.

 
FINANCIAL AID
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, is available. It will use the 2015 tax year and a data retrieval tool to pull information directly from the IRS. These changes will hopefully make the financial aid process easier.  Please check with your prospective colleges on their deadlines.

NHS AT LTS TO SERVE ZITI DINNER
Friday, December 9

From 5-7 pm, National Honor Society members will serve their famous ziti dinner. The menu includes either vegetarian or meat ziti with salad and bread, and brownie sundaes. This dinner will be served in the Whalen Common Room at Long Trail School. With The Phantom of the Opera performance at 7 pm in the theater, here is a great opportunity to have dinner and a show while supporting the many talents of Long Trail students. If you have questions or would like to reserve a table for your group, please contact NHS Advisor Kim Rizio at 802-867-5717 x147 with questions.

CANDY CANE BAKE SALE

Help the 6th and 7th graders get to NYC! $1.00 for cupcakes, brownies, cookies, chocolate covered pretzels and candy canes, or $4.00 for a bag of delicious homemade cookies. Cash only, please.

LTSounds - Instrumental and Choral
Thursday, December 15 at 6:30 pm
Students who take band and chorus classes will delight the audience with their musical offerings.  Students are asked to stay after school on Thursday to allow for an afternoon tech rehearsal in the theater. Once tech rehearsal has finished, students will eat dinner.  Middle School performers should wear black or dark dress pants or skirt, white dress shirt or top, red accent (i.e. tie, belt, scarf, etc). Black dress shoes with black socks/stockings. Upper School performers should wear black dress pants/skirt, dress shirt/top of any solid color, dress shoes.  LTPA Friends of the Arts is offering dinner to interested students at a cost of $4.00.  Students must sign up and pay at the front desk by Tues., Dec. 13 if they would like to have dinner.

The next payment for the grade level trip is due on Dec. 15. Checks should be made payable to Long Trail School and handed to Kim Murphy.

CLOTHING DRIVE FOR RUTLAND COUNTY HEAD START PROGRAM
The 8th grade is sponsoring a clothing drive to benefit the Rutland County Head Start Program. Specific needs include boys and girls size 3-5 underwear, coats and snow pants; preschoolers’ mittens, hats and socks; and snow boots in children’s sizes 9, 10 and 11. Please donate gently used, outgrown or new items to this wonderful cause of students helping younger children and their families have the clothing to enjoy the great outdoors comfortably! There are collection bins in Long Trail’s Main Entrance for your donations. If you have questions, please contact Jill Burke at or 802-867-5717 x148.

GOVERNOR'S INSTITUTE
Interested students can now apply for the Governor's Institutes Winter Weekends happening either Feb. 10-12 or Feb. 24-26.  Find the list of institute topics and more information at www.giv.org/winter.
