You, LORD, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation.

In PreK this week, swimming lessons started! As soon as kids entered the door, they couldn't help but show their excitement! Everyone learned a lot Besides swimming, we focused on the letter Hh and the number 5. To learn the letter, we did several activities that included the letter H. We; played house, finger painted houses, made Hippo puppets, Hula Hooped, and read "The Three Little Pigs" and made 3 houses using whatever kind of materials they would use. To practice our numbers, we made a Christmas countdown! It was a very fun!

The kinder class had a good week, we reviewed the letters Tt and Ii and with that we were Invited to a Tea Party and we had a great time.  Thanks to our lovely waitresses for all your help.  You should have seen our manners---superb!  We promised we would continue with good manners and kind gestures for the rest of the Advent Season and possibly forever.  We are working on simple addition and subtraction and discovering we have some number smart kids in the kinder room!

This week first grade worked with words with the short /u/ sound in reading.  We read 3 different versions of "The Three Little Pigs" and compared them and identified the plot.  We also worked on identifying proper nouns.  In math we worked on equations with unknown partners and totals.  In social studies we learned about people in history who have shown good character - Abraham Lincoln, "Honest Abe", Harriet Tubman's courage, etc.  In Science we have started a new unit about animals and are learning the difference between living and nonliving things.

This week we read nonfiction stories about inventors. We learned that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, Henry Ford made cars using an assembly line, and that many other less known people have invented things that we still use today.  We also compared and contrasted the inventors sharing ways they were alike and different.  In Math we are working with place value to 200.  We can break down numbers into hundreds, tens and ones; and we can draw quick hundreds boxes, ten sticks and ones to represent numbers to 200.  For Advent, we made a paper Advent wreath and we drew an empty manger.  Each day we share our love with someone, we add a piece of straw.  Hopefully our mangers will be filled with straw for baby Jesus by Christmas time.

The third graders had a busy week. In math class we are learning about figures, angles and triangles. We have been learning how to name triangles by their angles acute, obtuse and right and by the lengths of their sides equilateral, isosceles and scalene. We also have learned how to find a missing  angle of a triangle. In reading we read a historical fiction story titled "Boom Town" that told a story about how a town grew larger which lead us to talk about small towns around us why they grew. On Friday we got to enjoy the day with the 4th graders at Bonanza Educational Center and had a blast!!

This week in fourth grade we read a story about Martin Luther King Jr. It is a biography written by his sister and it tells stories about them growing up in the south. This story led to many great discussions about how we were all created by God and need to treat everyone with respect. In math we started a unit on equalities and inequalities. We also had the chance to visit the environmental learning center, Bonanza. We had a great day!!

This week in math we worked on graphing data. The fifth graders also learned about rounding numbers to different places. In reading we finished reading The Great Gilly Hopkins. The fifth graders have also been working hard at learning all of the books of the Bible. I am impressed at how quickly they are learning! Additionally, we began our advent journey in the classroom! It was a good, 5 day week!

This week in Math the students have started to tackle Factors, Prime Factorization and Greatest Common Factor. They started off with a little bit of trouble telling the different methods apart but have really focused and learned the different styles. We are also reading a folk tale about the value of honesty and never telling a lie as well as working hard on science presentations which will be shown this Friday. Yesterday we went to an Energy Assembly at the Morris High school and learned about different ways to make and conserve energy and the importance of clean living. They have also started Ultimate Frisbee in gym and seem to be getting the hang of it!
