Suomi presents in China, appointed visiting professor

Robotics and math methods supported in CCIT

Diversity Task Force: Inclusivity Tip #5

The first and most important step is asking yourself what you can do to address racial inequality in your classroom and beyond.

This tip is from UW-La Crosse which recently produced a video (by its students) regarding inclusive negligence on the UW-L campus. Some of you may have seen it. All UWSP departments have been asked to view and talk about this video over the next few months. Stay tuned for more tips from this video in upcoming CPS Monday Messages.

Marty's Message

At UW-Stevens Point we have 150 international students, of those 50 major in CPS disciplines including 27 in our School of Business and Economics alone. They come from places as far away as China, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Myanmar and India, just to name a few. They bring diversity and knowledge about foreign cultures to their American classmates. By the time they graduate, our international students are often among our best and most accomplished. 

This past week, Prof. Ruixue Du talked with our Business Advisory Council about international students enrolled in our School of Business and Economics. It was easy for our business partners to connect this group of outstanding young professionals with a partial solution for meeting our workforce needs. They, like us at UWSP, also see the benefits of adding diverse employees to their workplace.   

Many international students would like to live and work in the U.S. and many would like to stay right here in Stevens Point and region; however, the process of securing the H1 Visa and landing that job is uncertain and difficult. Part of the difficulty lies within the complicated process of hiring an international employee.

The solution can be found in helping our businesses–especially small businesses–navigate the Visa internship and hiring processes. With the help of our partners, this is something we are committed to improving.
