Dear <<First Name>>,
Did you know there are 14 holidays just within December alone? We know that Christmas and Hanukkah typically get the most attention, at least within the United States but there are special holidays for many other religious and ethnic groups as well.
Kwanzaa is the fastest growing holiday in the world. Muslims celebrate both Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in December.
A great resource to learn more about these (and more!) customs and cultures is http://www.educationworld.com. This website also features many arts and craft ideas that can help celebrate different cultures and customs as well!
What does this mean for us as child and family therapists? Having a well-stocked playroom that includes miniatures, dolls, foods that are multicultural is important every day but especially around the holidays.
It's crucial that our clients and families that come to see us feel seen, safe, and heard…especially as in recent months, many have faced significant trials and discrimination in our communities.
I am so grateful for the opportunities we share as Play Therapists across the world to help reach our most vulnerable members of society.
I am grateful for each on of you!! Together we can make a world of difference in the lives and homes of the children and families we see.
I wish you the most merriest of holidays!
Warmly,
Clair Mellenthin, LCSW, RPT-S
