As the year 2017 approaches, we face significant uncertainty from the top funding source for East Coast Greenway planning and construction: the federal government. But rather than pulling back and waiting to see how things play out in Washington, I see now as the time for the Greenway to be bold. Read more

Advocates sought for two new positions
to grow East Coast Greenway in Southeast


The East Coast Greenway Alliance is hiring for two new regional coordinator positions to be based in the Southeast. We seek high-energy project managers with experience in greenway development or other relevant areas and a passion for our mission of growing a safe, non-motorized route connecting Maine to Florida.

One coordinator will be based in South Carolina and Georgia, preferably in Savannah or Charleston; the other coordinator will be based in Florida. Read more

Trail Champion

Heather Barrar manages ambitious bike/ped plan for Chesterfield, VA

It's been a busy few years for Heather Barrar, principal planner with the Chesterfield County Planning Department in Virginia. Late in 2015, Chesterfield County approved the long-range Bikeways and Trails Plan for a 360-mile network of new bicycle pathways and trails. A year later, the county has adopted an ordinance requiring the facilities found on the plan be constructed as part of all development projects

Regional news: Greenway extensions celebrated, north to south

New England:  Ribbon-cutting celebrates extension of Down East Sunrise Trail, key link planned for Eastern Trail, cross country ski and snow shoe event February 4 in Ellsworth, ME. Read more

Mid-Atlantic:  Group ride checks out Capital Trail in and around Washington, DC, New York City Committee meets January 4. Read more

South Atlantic:  Save the date for greenways conference in Virginia, 100+ miles signed in North Carolina, Myrtle Beach becomes first city to complete its section East Coast Greenway, 2.5 miles added to Spanish Moss Trail. Read more

Southeast:  The next phase of the Timucuan Trail is set to begin in Jacksonville, FL; Greenways event in Melbourne January 28. Read more
