DIRECTION TO CUHK CAMPUS FROM HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT


By Taxi:
The trip from Hong Kong International Airport to the CUHK campus is about 45 minutes. The fare is about HK$300. The following texts may come in handy:香港中文大學 | The Chinese University of Hong Kong

By Airport Bus and Taxi/MTR Train (NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU HAVE BULK LUGGAGE):
Take airport bus route number A41 from the airport to Shatin Station, which operates daily from 6:00 a.m. to midnight at 20-minute intervals. The Shatin Central Bus Terminal is not the terminal stop for the bus. You may wish to ask the driver where to get off or pay attention to the broadcast. The bus ride is about 65 – 70 minutes. The fare is HK$22.3. Taxi
From Shatin Station, you can take a taxi to the CUHK campus. The fare is about HK$50. The ride is about 15 minutes.

MTR Train (NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU HAVE BULK LUGGAGE)
Alternatively, you can take the train to the University Station from Shatin Station (second stop from Shatin). The trains run every 5 to 10 minutes from 6:00 a.m. daily. The fare is HK$4.5.

There are four exits at the University Station – Exit A / C / D to the CUHK campus and Exit B to the public bus terminus and taxi stand. Upon exiting the University Station, you should take the shuttle bus to reach the assigned student hostel. A bus schedule is available online at www.cuhk.edu.hk/transport_unit/timetable_I.pdf.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION

To better keep track of your arrival date and time in Hong Kong, you should complete and submit the online arrival information form. We have received 70 replies thus far. You are strongly advised to provide your arrival information if you are expected to arrive at campus after 10:00 p.m.


RESULT OF HOSTEL ASSIGNMENT

Please refer to the PDF file for result of hostel assignment. The balance of student mix in the aspects of gender, country of origin, study period and major studies have been taken into consideration of the assignment of College affiliation and hostel. Due to the great competition for on-campus accommodation, request on moving to another student hostel will NOT be considered.

The earliest check-in date at the student hostels is 3 January 2017.


ACADEMIC ADVISING SESSION


Each exchange student will be assigned to a 30-minute session during the orientation to meet with one of the colleagues of the Office of Academic Links (OAL) to go through important issues related to course registration in January 2017. Students are welcome to ask any questions related to course matters and receive immediate assistance from the OAL colleagues. Your assigned timeslot will be printed on your student record sheet which will be distributed to you upon registration at OAL from 3 January 2017.

START OF LECTURE PERIOD


Lecture period will start from 9 January 2017. Please refer to your schedule to attend classes accordingly. All tutorial sessions will be held after the first lecture. If the tutorial session is scheduled prior to the first lecture day, please go to the tutorial from the following week.

Environmental Levy on Plastic Bags
The Environmental Levy Scheme on Plastic Shopping Bags has been in force since July 2009. The Plastic Shopping Bag (PSB) Charging has come into effect on 1 April 2015, retailers shall charge customer an amount of not less than 50 cents for each plastic shopping bag or each pre-packaged pack of 10 or more plastic shopping bags.

Electrical System
The electrical system in Hong Kong operates on 220V. You can bring electronic devices for use in Hong Kong if it has a built-in transformer. This is usually indicated by “INPUT 110-220V”. However, a plug converter might be required if the electronic device is connecting with a plug that is different from the one shown here.

Mobile Service
If you are going to bring your mobile phone to Hong Kong, you can purchase a pre-paid SIM card for local and international calls, data services. Charges start from HK$0.30 per minute for local calls and HK$1.00 per minute for international calls (depending on various service providers). The pre-paid SIM cards can be purchased at major mobile phone service providers and 24-hour convenience stores (such as 7-11 and Circle K).

CUHK MOBILE APP

You will find the CUHK Mobile app handy as it tells you the time of the next shuttle and locates classrooms within seconds.  It is compatible with both iPhone and Android mobile devices.  You may download it from the iPhone App Store or Google Play Store by searching CUHK Mobile.
