Mr Harrison's blog

We are almost at the end of another term and Christmas draws near – indeed next week will in essence be ‘Christmas week’ for us here. We have begun with the lovely Nativity plays and the Carol Service last night and we shall move through the weekend via the Christmas Fair into a time of fun and celebration with Christmas discos, jumper days, Christmas lunch and a final ‘sing-a-long’ with carols before heading to families for further times of joy at home.

Kindy get to grips with Christmas

Over the past few weeks the Kindergarten children have been practising for their annual Christmas Nativity. Although Reception normally take the lead roles in the nativity, many Kindergarten children told their families and teachers that they were in fact Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.

Reception's work

In Literacy, Reception have been reading and thinking about the book, Harvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Present, by John Burningham. The children teamed up in pairs to design and draw a story map, labelling Father Christmas’s journey to deliver a forgotten present to Harvey Slumfenburger. View some examples of their work.

Year 6 light up Rudolph

Christmas has come early for the Year 6 pupils this term. They spent the first part of this half term investigating electrical circuits. They have learnt how to build circuits with multiple components including bulbs, switches, buzzers and motors.

Video: Weston Green’s Food Committee

Weston Green’s Food Committee is made up of eight pupils in Years 3 to 6, two Weston Green parents, Mrs Colliver, Mrs Withers and our School Chef, Matt. Members of the Food Committee have the opportunity to voice their ideas and opinions relating to food at Weston Green and enjoy the responsibility of helping to organise events, initiatives and fundraising activities for the whole school to take part in. Watch our short video for an insight into a recent Food Committee meeting.

Taster day in year 3

This week we welcomed the current Year 2 children into Year 3 to give them some insight into life in Key Stage 2.

They had a fun packed day of activities, from a sports session at Old Cranleighan's to time with their future buddies who helped answer any questions the children had about how school life will change when they move up to Key Stage 2.

  School Council sends Books2Africa

Christmas is a time for giving and so it is fitting that this week the School Council sent off seven boxes of maths text books to the charity Books2Africa. This charity collects and distributes books and educational materials to equip libraries within classrooms, institutions and communities across Africa.
