FISH ISLAND SPECIAL DECEMBER 2016

TWO LLDC BRIDGES OVER THE HACKNEY CUT

The LLDC has submitted four planning applications to itself for two new bridges over the Hackney Cut. The narrower bridge requires the unnecessary demolition of Fish Island’s second oldest canal-side industrial building. Whilst the wider bridge requires the unnecessary demolition of a perfectly good pedestrian/cycle bridge; and would carry buses on what would rapidly become an alternative commuter road from the Lower Lea Valley, through the middle of two relatively traffic-free residential areas, and into the rest of Tower Hamlets.

A long letter of objection on behalf of EEWG (16/00587/REM, 16/00588/REM, 16/00585/NMA and 16/00592/SCRES) takes a conservation approach – as this is probably the only way of making comprehensive objections about what the planners call material considerations.

The deadline was 6 December but the LLDC usually accepts late comments, and we need as many objections as possible to all four planning applications to make the LLDC think again. Please send an email asap using all the bullet points at the start of the long letter; and supporting our proposed bus routes over the existing White Post Lane Bridge.

MCGRATH WORKS, HEPSCOTT ROAD

Another long letter on behalf of EEWG is in favour of an outline planning application for a very extensive site on the north side of the Hertford Union Canal (16/00451/OUT).

The deadline was 2 December but short letters supporting the proposed retention of five industrial buildings and the proposed canal-side linear park would probably help with the full planning application for this exemplary development.

ALGHA WORKS

The application for a single-storey addition on the roof of this iconic industrial building in the Fish Island & White Post Lane Conservation Area was refused by the LLDC Planning Policy and Decisions Team on 11 October 2016.

EEWG thanks the 396 people who signed the online petition against the application (16/00102/FUL).

The decision notice and all relevant documents may be seen on the planning register http://planningregister.londonlegacy.co.uk. (See links below)

SWAN WHARF

The applicant withdrew the planning application just before it was due to go to the LDDC Planning Committee in July 2016.
