SECTOR NEWS
IMPORTANT FUNDING OPPORTUNITY for NONPROFITS WORKING WITH SNAP RECIPIENTS
Area Community Services Employment and Training Council (ACSET) West Michigan Works! (WMW) is seeking proposals from community based organizations and/or education and training providers to provide Food Assistance Employment & Training (FAE&T) program services under a model which offers partial reimbursement from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) for non-federal dollars spent on services for eligible individuals.

Under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Employment and Training (E&T) Programs, States receive funding to provide employment and training services to recipients of SNAP, known as Food Assistance Program (FAP) in Michigan, who are not also receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), commonly known as cash assistance.

In addition to these funds, States can be reimbursed up to 50% of any non-federal dollars spent on approved services, with the reimbursement funds used to expand capacity by providing additional employment and training services.

Requests for the RFP and any questions regarding this proposal may be directed to Stacy Bush, Procurement Specialist, via e-mail at sbush@acset.org. until Monday, December 19, 2016. Questions will not be answered after that date.
IMPORTANT - Food Assistance Work Requirement Changes
Effective Jan. 1, 2017, able-bodied adults ages 18-49 without dependents in the counties of Kent, Oakland, Ottawa and Washtenaw must comply with federal time limit work requirements in order to receive food assistance benefits. Michigan has received a statewide federal waiver to these food assistance work requirements since 2002. Due to the improvements in the state’s economy, the federal government will no longer grant the waiver statewide, so it will be phased out beginning in these four counties. Able-bodied adults without dependents in those four counties have a time limit of three months of food assistance without meeting the work requirements.
