Shamiya Estell - Spirit of the Future Scholarship Recipient
Center Scholarship Assists Students Obtaining a Degree at CMU
The Center’s Spirit of the Future scholarship program offers scholarships to upcoming, or former, graduates of a CMU-authorized high school. Watch this video to hear from Shamiya Estell, a graduate of Jalen Rose Leadership Academy and current CMU student on her experiences at her charter public school. She is a second-year recipient of a Spirit of the Future scholarship. This year’s scholarship application deadline is January 31, 2017. Applications and eligibility requirements are available here
U.S. Department of Education Releases Final ESSA Regulations
On Monday, November 28, the U.S. Department of Education released the final accountability rules for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which provide further guidance for states on how to implement the requirements under the law. Based on the feedback on May’s draft regulations, a number of changes were made. Read More
Contract Amendment Deadline Approaching in January
Part of your academy’s planning for the future may include changes that your school is considering for implementation during the 2017-18 school year. Academies recently received the Contract Amendment Checklist for 2017-2018 and Contract Amendment Request Resolution. Both documents are located here and contain more information regarding the contract amendment process. January 25, 2017 is the deadline to submit the Contract Amendment Request Resolution, approved by your board, to the Center via Epicenter.

Spirit of the Future Scholarships
Eligible graduates of CMU-authorized charter public high schools have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to attend CMU.  Read more
Charter School Educator Award
Eligible educators and school leaders at CMU-authorized charter public schools can receive 50 percent tuition assistance for eligible graduate programs at CMU.  Read more
College of Education and Human Services
Links direct you to specific Centers and Departments within the College that have resources that can drive performance, enhance capacity and create opportunities at all levels of the K-12 community.  Read more
GOOD NEWS IN OUR SCHOOLS
Countryside Academy Parent Wins MAPSA Contest
MAPSA recently held a contest asking parents, students, alumni and teachers why they were thankful for their charter school. Out of more than 700 entries the winner was Kirsten Johnson, a parent from Countryside Academy. Click here to read Kirsten’s quote. 
Summit Academy North Student Competes at National Competition
Garrett Novak, a senior at Summit Academy North, competed at his third cross country state finals this fall placing 15th out of 242 runners in the Division Two race and earning All-State honors. Garrett then traveled to Wisconsin to race in the Foot Locker National Championships with 200 runners from all Division schools in the Midwest, where he placed 91st. Garrett’s running accomplishments have been tremendous, but most importantly he holds over a 4.0 grade point average.
