We have plenty to keep you busy over the festive period in this month’s Spread!, with Christmas reads, competitions and offers. Want to find out more? Read on …
NEW BOOKS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH
The Boys of Christmas by Jane Lovering
THE BOYS OF CHRISTMAS by Jane Lovering

Nothing like a Jane Lovering Christmas novella to get you in the festive spirit …
Follow Mattie Arden and her best friend Toby on a journey to the village of Christmas Steepleton in Dorset, where they must uncover the mystery surrounding the bizarre dying wish of Mattie’s Great Aunt Millie. This is a fabulous festive romp, guaranteed to get you laughing!

There's even more reason to buy this novel. It's currently only 99p/¢ on all platforms and, more importantly, Jane is donating a percentage of her earnings to help buy a wheelchair for a friend's daughter. Your help would be wonderful! You'll find all the details within the novel.

Quickfire Christmas questions with Jane Lovering:
First Christmas memory? Finding a box at the end of my bed which was sort of 'roof' shaped. Hoped (rather weirdly) it was a do-it-yourself dolls' house. Which is a terrible idea for anyone for Christmas, so why I hoped for it, I still don't know.  It was a Tressy doll in a triangular box (Tressy was a bit like Barbie but her hair grew when you turned a screw in her back. Not, unfortunately, after you'd cut it off, though).

Favourite Christmas film? The Amazing Mr Blunden. A cross between The Railway Children and all the ghost stories you ever grew up with. It's fabulous. Seek it out immediately.

Favourite food on your Christmas dinner plate?
Any and all of it. It's food, right? And anyway, if it's on my plate it's because I cooked it, and why would I cook food I didn't like?

Which Quality Street do you pick from the tin first? Look, I have a house full of kids at Christmas. I'm just glad if, when I put my hand in, there's any chocolates left at all. One year I left the tin unattended while I walked the dogs, came home and it was full of nothing but scrunched up bits of silver paper and a cat biscuit.
One Dark Lie by Clare Chase
ONE DARK LIE by Clare Chase
The perfect crime read for winter …
Ruby and Nate have opted for the quiet life – but crime has a habit of following them around. When Ruby finds herself involved in the mystery of a murdered Cambridge academic, can she rely on Nate’s support … or is there something even more dangerous that has his attention?

One Dark Lie is the third book in Clare’s London and Cambridge Mysteries and the sequel to A Stranger's House.

Quickfire Christmas questions with Clare Chase:
First Christmas memory?
Waking up before dawn to see a tantalisingly stuffed stocking at the end of my bed, and being too excited to go to sleep again!

Favourite Christmas film?
Love Actually. (I also have a real soft spot for the TV dramatisation of The Box of Delights by John Masefield. I re-watch it every year!)

Favourite food on your Christmas dinner plate? Turkey with all the trimmings, including chestnut and sausage meat stuffing made to my mother's recipe. Can't wait!

Which Quality Street do you pick from the tin first?  I must admit, I'm more of a Celebrations girl. It's the mini Snickers bars that do it...
