Enable MSMEs to get more Businesses Online

Nigerians are not short of ideas. You just need to interact with the young ones, to marvel at the depth of ideas being nurtured by these upcoming entrepreneurs. It is therefore important to help them catalyze these business ideas into reality, creating more jobs, otherwise these ideas will soon turn to illusion. We must therefore cultivate more Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) because MSMEs are the catalyst for growing any economy.

Social media is now an integral part of everyday life of almost every person; every serious business maintains online presence on all social media platforms, taking advantage of social websites and applications to proliferate their market outreach and Internet advertising. Social media is used to communicate news, trends, best practices, market products, promote brands, and connect to past and current customers and foster new businesses.

National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA): Seven key developmental agenda
Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami , the Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) had highlighted the agency’s 7 key interest focus under his watch to the Nigeria ICT stakeholders and professionals.
 
He requested for the support of Nigerians ICT stakeholders and professional bodies on the following 7 key areas listed below:
  1. Regulation of Information Technology Sector
  2. Capacity Building in Information Technology Sector
  3. Local Content Development & Promotion
  4. Digital Job Creation
  5. Government Digital Service Promotion
  6. Cyber Security
  7. Revenue Generation
He stated that considering the wide scope of NITDA’s mandate and the need to channel limited resources appropriately, these seven areas were identified as areas of priority. This was highlighted at the National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA) at Muson Centre, Lagos on the 30th of November 2016.
Niyi Yusuf at NIRA Registrars’ Forum
On Friday, 2nd December 2016, the last NiRA’s Registrars Forum for 2016 held at the NiRA Office Complex in Lagos. This is the forum used by NiRA and its Accredited Registrars to interact, with the objective on how to move the Domain Name Industry forward and create further awareness for the Nigerian online identity.
Speaking at the event, the Guest Speaker, Mr Niyi Yusuf, the Country Managing Director, Accenture Nigeria, emphasized on how best to run businesses during the times of recession. He spoke on the need to define the business target customer/audience; track, understand and leverage trends to be ahead of the curve and ensure sound business decisions.  The interaction with the Registrars was productive and appreciated by all.
Another Award for NiRA
NIGERIA Technology Awards (NiTA) is an award organized to Celebrate and reward Technology Entrepreneurs, Innovators, Inventors, Academicians and policy makers (Government) in Nigeria. NiRA received a special recognition award at the 2nd edition of the Nigeria Technology Awards held in Lagos on the 26th November 2016. NIRA appreciates the organisers of the Nigeria Technology Awards for the honour and congratulations to all nominees and winners.
 
Several companies and organisations received awards for their contributions in the IT space, flaunting their .ng domain names. NIRA commends the companies that have taken the bold step of being on .ng and are  proudly flying the .ng flag. 
PANTAMI recognized at NITMA
At the National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA) 2016 on Wednesday 30th November 2016, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) conferred Professional Fellowship to some of her members and a Special recognition award to National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). NIRA congratulates Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, the Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for receiving the special recognition award at NCS award night. 
Domain Names Registration Statistics for September, October and November 2016
Domain Name Registrations and Renewals at the Registry have maintained a steady increase, on month per month basis and year per year basis. The increase in domain name registration is more noticeable when viewed across the different years in comparison. The domain names registered and renewed in November 2016 (5,231) is more than the registration in November 2015 (3,195) and almost doubled the registration in November 2014 (2,723).
