Program Update

The holidays are quickly approaching and the next thing we know, it will be 2017.  As always, the holidays are a great time to spend with friends and family, participating in and creating new traditions with those we care about. This is also a time when those we are close to really struggle with stress, anxiety, and grief and loss.  With everything that has been going on in our communities over this past year, having that non-judgmental and listening ear to turn to, or a shoulder to cry on for support can make all the difference. Let’s do our best to be there for each other and just know that there are places like the Recovery Help Line that are here to provide support.

2017 National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week

January 23 marks the beginning of 2017’s National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week. Launched in 2010, the movement was created by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The nationwide observance has grown each year, and represents an effort to counteract the myths about drugs and alcohol that teens often hear from the internet, TV, movies, music, or friends. Over the course of the week, events across the country will help to connect teens with scientists and other experts, giving them a safe space to ask questions without judgment, lecture, or punishment.

If you are interested in learning more, or in finding, planning, or registering an event for NDAFW, you can visit their website.

New Marijuana Info Page

We have recently added a new information page to our website at http://www.warecoveryhelpline.org/marijuana/

In curating this page, we took a holistic approach to marijuana facts and information. Topics include legal information, treatment options, harm reduction information, tips for cutting back, retail and medically endorsed locations, and a self-screening tool. If you or someone you know needs resources or information about cannabis in Washington State, this page is an excellent place to start.

Volunteer with the WA Recovery Help Line

The Recovery Help Line offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for both youth and adults, suited to meet your interests and availability.  One of our wonderful volunteers recently described her experience as meaningful and rewarding:

“Whether people just need to talk or need resources, I am happy to be there because they are reaching out and trying to change their own lives.”

New volunteers are always needed to answer calls on the Recovery Help Line. Training is offered at various times throughout the year and we're currently accepting applications for trainings that start in January.

For more information about any of these opportunities, please visit our Volunteer page.

Also, keep an eye on the Washington Recovery Help Line Job Board for more opportunities.
