FEAST OF THE CONCEPTION OF THE HOLY VIRGIN MARY

Today, December 9, is the Feast of the Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary. This is one of the eight feast days devoted to the Holy Virgin in the Armenian Church’s liturgical calendar. This feast is always celebrated on December 9, and is part of the Church’s preparation for Christmas. The faithful rejoice in the event that celebrates Mary’s conception in fulfillment of the prayers of her parents and was nurtured to become the mother of the Messiah. Bible readings for this Feast are: Song of Songs 6:3-8; Malachi 3:1-2; Galatians 3:24-29; Luke 1:39-56.

Christmas is an amazing time! There are many Christmas traditions that we all wait to enjoy. One of them is Christmas Caroling which many of us did when we were kids! Our Church's "Holy Seraphim" Choir would like to present a unique Armenian-American Christmas Caroling program this year, visiting the residences of our parishioners.

The date of the Christmas Caroling program will be the following:
Tuesday, December 13. Time: 6:00-9:00 pm.

If you would like to have the Choir stop by your home for a few carols, please use the special sheet available at the entrance of the Church for sign up.

The Epistle Reading

1 Thessalonians 4:1-12

Finally, brothers and sisters, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus that, as you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God (as, in fact, you are doing), you should do so more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you knows how to control your own body in holiness and honor, not with lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one wrongs or exploits a brother or sister in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we have already told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For God did not call us to impurity but in holiness. Therefore whoever rejects this rejects not human authority but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you. Now concerning love of the brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anyone write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another; and indeed you do love all the brothers and sisters throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, beloved, to do so more and more, to aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we directed you, so that you may behave properly towards outsiders and be dependent on no one.
The Gospel Reading

Luke 14:12-24

Jesus said to the one who had  invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid.  But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.  And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”  One of the dinner guests, on hearing this, said to him, “Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
Then Jesus said to him: “Someone gave a great dinner and invited many. At the time for the dinner he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’ But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land, and I must go out and see it, please accept my regrets.’ Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out, please accept my regrets.’ Another said, ‘I have just been married, and therefore I cannot come.’ So the servant returned and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame. For I tell you, none of those who were invited will taste my dinner.”

  "Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
"
Psalm 103:1

Pastor & Choir director invite all those who like to sing for the glory of the Lord.
You don't have to be a professional singer, or have special training in reading music notes. Your simple willingness to commit yourself to the choir and learn new Sharagans - Hymns are enough for our Church and for your spiritual growth!
Our Stewardship
Pastor & Board of Trustees have decided to publish the weekly income/expense figures of our Church, in an effort of sharing knowledge and awareness with our parishioners about how we use our financial resources. This is the fruit of the indirect conversation that we had with our parish through our church survey.

Sunday, December 04, 2016:

Total Income (Includes Candles, Collection, Anniversary donation, Dues, Christmas Poinsettia, cards and In Lieu Of Flowers): $ 7,217.00
Weekly Expense from 2016 approved budget: $ 2,351.00

We would like to talk about the importance of Stewardship. Stewardship is based on the spiritual principles of the Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus. It is a way of thanking God for all the blessings He has given us by returning him a portion of time, talent and treasure. Stewardship can change the spiritual lives of both individuals and the parish as a whole.
