Black Diamond Alpine Ergo Trekking Pole

These all-season trekking poles have ergonomically angled grips to keep your wrists naturally positioned. Lightweight carbon fibre lower sections reduce the overall weight of your setup.
  • Top section is aluminum for stiffness, lower sections are lightweight carbon fibre.
  • Natural cork grips wick away sweat.
  • 15-degree grip angle puts your hand in an optimal position, reduces swing motion at the wrist, and provides positive pole plants.
  • Non-slip foam extension grip allows you to move your hand down on steep or sloping terrain.
  • Padded webbing straps are left and right hand specific.
  • Secure FlickLock® adjustment mechanism.
  • Carbide tech tips have a WaveLock attachment so they can be changed or swapped out.
  • Low profile trekking baskets included.

Snowshoeing Tips

  1. Buy or rent suitable snowshoes. Wet snow is best handled with smaller snowshoes with less flotation, while larger snowshoes are great for powder snow.  A snowshoe’s recommended load refers to your weight and the weight of your gear.
  2. Carry a larger pack than usual. Bring a shovel and extra layers of clothing!
  3. Use poles.
  4. Bring a repair kit. Duct tape, zap straps, and bailing wire are recommended.
  5. Follow backcountry safety practices. Take an Avalanche Skills Training course to know how to be safe in the backcountry.  Have every person in your party carry and know how to use an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel.
  6. Drink plenty of water.
  7. Use a Hydro Flask and bring along a hot drink.
  8. Take turns breaking trail in fresh snow. Let everyone in the group share the extra work.
  9.  Use hand warmers. Good to have along for your digits and also warming up your camera or flashlight to keep them working.
  10. Practise good etiquette.Avoid snowshoeing in the skin tracks of back country skiers or the groomed areas for cross-country skiers.
