Transforming lives of people with disabilities, visual impairments and special needs through the use of assistive technology

Season's Greetings

Dear family, friends and supporters

As we approach the end of another year, you may be asking where did it go?

Well, here at JSF HQ we can tell you exactly where it went...

We designed and launched our new logo - now appearing on our website, social media pages AND very stylish bags and t-shirts which are available to buy!!
We awarded grants to NINE very worthy beneficiaries. Below are the stories behind the THREE grants we have awarded since our last quarterly newsletter...
Team JSF Nightrider heroically endured a tough night time cycle ride and raised a spectacular £3,000
Staff and girls from Pankhurst House, Surbiton High School raised a very impressive £1,000. We are very honoured that they will again raise funds for us this academic year
Paul Davies joined us as Finance Director. Welcome to the team Paul!
We presented the "Just So Funny" comedy night; and what a night it was!! An extravaganza of great comedy AND we raised £1,600!
We secured ONE charity bond place for the 2017 London Marathon. Our lucky runner is?...
And we have also secured a charity bond place for the 2017 Prudential RideLondon cycling event. Watch this space for your invitation to apply...

GRANTS AWARDED

Robyn is 18 years old. She has Mosaic duplication (chromosome duplication) and Spina Bifida. She is wheelchair bound and has no functional verbal communication. At school she was given the use of an iPad with the Prologuo2go communication application. This enabled her to do her school work and it also supported her social interaction.
As she was about to leave school and transition into a day care facility, her mother and teachers were very concerned that, without the iPad, she will no longer be able to communicate effectively. This would impact her ability to become more independent.
Robyn was awarded a grant of £600 to fund the iPad and the Prologuo2go app.

Ethan is 5 years old. He has global developmental delay and autistic spectrum disorder.
He relies on an adult for all of his basic needs and, as he is still unable to express himself verbally, he communicates his needs by leading an adult by the hand.
He is at a special severe learning difficulties school where they have been encouraging him to communicate using an iPad with the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). They feel it would help Ethan’s development enormously if he were to have an iPad with PECS at home as it would help him communicate and interact with his family.
Ethan was awarded a grant of £420 to fund an iPad.

David is 8 years old. He has Angelman Syndrome, epilepsy, hyperactivity and sleep disorder. He is  completely non-verbal and, because he cannot communicate his needs, he becomes frustrated which leads to him engaging in harmful activities such as hitting himself on his legs. His speech and language therapists have recommended the use of the Prologuo2go communication app to help David make himself understood and to give him a voice, both at home and in the community.
David was awarded a grant of £200 to fund the Prologuo2go app.

When you have a moment, you can read the stories  of our other beneficiaries. Here you will see how the money raised by Team JSF Nightrider and Surbiton High School was used to help 15 year old Kinjal.

FUNDRAISING EVENT NEWS

"Just So Funny" Comedy Night

Just So Funny? Yes it was! A brilliant night packed with exceptional comedy and all round good fun!

Huge thanks to comedians Arthur Smith, Tony Law, Tom Ward, Mark Restuccia, Ariane Sherine, Ross Smith and Elizabeth Guterbock who so generously gave up their time for this event.

A massive thank you again to everyone else involved who helped make the night such a success; in particular, the venue, the East Dulwich Tavern for all their help and support in hosting the evening.

And last, but not least, a big high five and comedy slap on the back to thank everyone who attended and to those who made generous donations.

The combined support and generosity of everyone involved helped us to raise £1,600!!

The money was put straight to use to provide grants to Ethan and David (as detailed above) and will also enable us to help at least one more applicant in our queue!!

Virgin Money London Marathon 2017

We thought we would mention just once more how thrilled we are to announce that we have been allocated ONE place for the London Marathon which takes place on April 23rd, 2017.

After weeks of sifting through a pile of applications, we are all very pleased to announce that the lucky recipient of this coveted place is? (drum roll....) Daniel Ralph (round of applause!) who has agreed to take on this tough challenge and raise a minimum of £3,000 in sponsorship money.

This is Daniel's first ever marathon and we wish him lots of luck in his training.

Please support Daniel and help him reach his target

...and, of course, if anyone out there was successful in the general ballot, it would be fantastic if you would consider the Janki Saye Foundation as your charity of choice and raise money for us!

So we hope you will agree that this year has packed quite a punch for fundraising and support.

As we look back on this very exciting and eventful 2016 (all thanks to the team, our fabulous supporters and our dynamic fundraisers) and we look forward to 2017, here's to making next year even bigger and better!

The demand for grants continues. We already have requests in the pipeline amounting to £8,000. There are many more people out there who need our help. So we really can't "do what we do"  without your valued support.

We are extremely grateful for whatever you can do - please check out our Donation and Fundraising pages for more information on how you can get involved.

We wish you all the best for a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.

Best wishes

Sheila, Mala and Ian
