Hi <<First Name>>,

Wow, have you been missing us?  The team at Goal Digger have been snowed under for the past few months.  Welcome if this is the first time you have received our newsletter!  Since we last caught up, we have recruited a great number of staff into some great positions and we have been working with many, many students and adults reviewing and making changes to their career goals.  We have had an unwavering support from the secondary schools in our area, pointing students our way when they are in a pickle - if you want to book in, contact us directly.

In this issue we have loads of information.  If you are looking for a new job and just aren't getting anywhere, check out our 'ask yourself' questions in relation to your CV.  We also have a few roles we are recruiting for, be sure to find more information below.

If you are a teen who is feeling rather anxious about your NCEA results, or first year of University results, be sure to review our tips regarding getting through this time.  You are not the only one, and there are plenty of ways to get back on the road to success, you might realise you aren't even off it!

A couple of important things to note:

  • Applications for Universities are still open for some qualifications.
  • If you haven't already and you are off to study next year, get your Studylink application done now!
  • Scholarship applications are closing left, right and centre.  If you are planning on applying for schoarlships. Don't miss the boat.  Did you know that scholarships are often based on your Level 2 results?
Holidays are here! Summer might not be in full swing, but Christmas is swiftly approaching.  It is time for me to spend some time with the little ladies in my life and enjoy what life is really about.
Goal Digger will be closed from Wednesday 21 December until Monday 9th January 2017.

Kim Goal Digger's Office Administrator, and myself wish you the happiest of holidays, be safe, be merry.

CV's, take the time to get it right!
We are constantly getting questions about how to get CV's performing.  So, in this editions we are going to provide a few more tips to give you more of an edge. Ask yourself these questions:
  1. How many jobs have I applied for and how many interviews have I had? Applied for 20 roles and the phone hasn't rung once... something is wrong with your CV! Simple. It is not selling you and your skills for the job you are applying for.
  2. Am I tailoring my CV and cover letter each time I apply for a new role?  If you are sending "John Johnson Retail CV" for a personal assistant role, I am afraid you will go in the big fat no pile.  Attention to detail, comb your CV, get someone else to comb it too!
  3. Can the recruiter instantly know whether I have the capability to do this role?  Is your skill base and experience highlighted clearly and concisely at a skim of the page?

When your schooling career doesn't pan out as planned...
The anxious wait to discover your NCEA results in January is hard, but what is even harder if you know in the pitt of your stomach that the results are not going to be as you had hoped.

Life happens and sometimes, we need to evaluate our plan B, or take a slight detour to get us back on the road ahead.  In our line of work, we often meet secondary school students and first year tertiary students that have not had what we would deem a successful first or final year.  Unfortunately, our academic assessment does have implications on what options we have available to us.

If you are a student that has not obtained University Entrance and are now not able to pursue the career option planned out for 2017, let us help.  Don't beat yourself up, it won't change anything. Want you do need to do is get proactive.  Seek advice and find out what your options are now.  There are other options.

Both you and your parents (if they are an active part of your career planning), need to sit down and evaluate these things:
-What are your truly great skills?
-What is important to you in a career?
-What is a logistically possible option for you and your family?
-If you didn't obtain the entry requirements to get you on the path you were anticipating, was it really the right one... can you cut it?

It takes time to sort through and weigh up your choices, so be sure to book a time with us, have a family meeting, or see your school's career adviser.

You can still be a Goal Digger... let's get onto it!
