ANNOUNCEMENTS

Announcing the 2017 SAIS Global Women in Leadership Conference - Save the Date!

We are pleased to announce that the fifth annual SAIS Global Women in Leadership Conference, Securing a Sustainable Future: Women as Leaders in a Changing Climate, will take place on April 21st, 2017 at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.

The Conference will provide a forum to examine the critical intersection between gender and climate change. We will examine the asymmetric impact of environmental change on women worldwide, and we will discuss how societies can leverage women's leadership to develop sustainable, adaptive solutions to climate-based challenges. The Conference will also explore the central role women play in financing and implementing solutions effectively across the globe. Women possess unique capacity to sustain our future in an uncertain world, and the 2017 Conference seeks to amplify women's voices to advance sustainable growth amidst a backdrop of ecological change.

For more information about opportunities for conference involvement and sponsorship, check out the GWL conference page.

Spring 2017 Course Offering
Transcending Culture: Women as Agents of Change in the International Order

This course explores the impact of women's contributions on the central international system, including international political economy and security. Speakers from corporations and non-profit organizations will introduce projects in which they are partnering with women to increase both economic returns and the well-being of the communities in which they operate. Students will have the opportunity to interact closely with business leaders, diplomats, gender experts, and activists to design their own innovative projects to enhance, replicate, and expand ongoing or new initiatives to advance women. Students will learn practical applications of the theoretical approaches to advancing women and dislodging restrictive cultural norms in communities around the globe, and study the wide body of evidence that women's leadership is transformative and societies suffer when women are denied their full rights. Session themes will offer a new angle and analytical approach to core SAIS curriculum in the fields of international relations, economics, development, security, politics, and the law.
