Changes Taking Place in January
Mandatory Construction Industry Ethics Course
All future Gold Seal applicants will have to take the Construction Industry Ethics course (both online and classroom portions). Gold Seal has allocated a total of 3 credits to this course (2 for the online portion and 1 for the classroom portion). The classroom component will be available at your local construction association.
Reduced Fees for Gold Seal Interns
As of January 1, the Gold Seal Intern application fee will be reduced from $500 to $100. Once an Intern has met the Gold Seal exam requirements, they will need to pay the examination fee.

Give Hope to Young Haitians
The Canadian Construction Association together with its partners are rebuilding École Lakay, a Port-au-Prince, Haiti, based trade school damaged by the January 2010 earthquake. Besides having an opportunity to learn a trade, students receive a hot meal three times a day, can take a bath, have clean clothes supplied and a safe place to sleep. While the original school’s capacity was only 80 students, the new school will span 2,100 m2 and be able to accommodate 200 students.
This school will train the tradespeople who will be there to rebuild in the aftermath of future earthquakes and storms. The École Lakay project is nearing completion but WE NEED YOUR HELP to finish the job. Learn how you can contribute
Coming up in the Spring
Gold Seal Student Designation
In an effort to attract young professionals entering the industry, Gold Seal will be launching a Student Designation intended for students in their final year of studies. Information will be available on the Gold Seal website in January.
New Foreman Designation
Gold Seal is happy to announce the addition of a new Foreman designation which will be launched in the Spring of 2017. This designation will only be available through the exam stream and will not be tied to a contracting discipline. Information will be available on the Gold Seal website in January.
Online Exams to Debut in April
In April Gold Seal will be moving from paper-based exams to online exams. This will shorten the turnaround time for exam results from eight weeks to two. Applicants will be required to bring their own computer to challenge the exam. Exams will still be proctored by the local construction association.
