Chris Chats

I've had a month at home, I can hardly believe it.  I'm fully recovered from whatever lurgy I brought back from Barcelona (thanks for all your get well messages :D ) and I've been busy doing some social media work for my Quilt Guild and creating a new project for the Benartex Deck The Halls Blog Hop.

I'll be sharing pics from the Winter Mini-Quilt swap I took part in and info about a class I'm taking in July at Quilting By The Lake.

If you're happy to stick around, thanks for subscribing and let's do this together :D

Two More Giveaways

If you're a US resident, don't miss the Benartex Holiday-themed FQ bundle giveaway that's part of their Deck The Halls Blog Hop Week and is happening right now on my blog.  Entries are open until 10.00 am on Saturday, 10 December 2016.

I'm working on another project/blog hop that'll involve a giveaway, I don't know the exact date yet but, we're aiming for doing it before Christmas.

The fabric is gorgeous, it's a new 21 fabric collection called Curious Dream by Angela Pingel for Windham Fabrics available online and in stores in December.

It's Alice in Wonderland inspired but not in an obvious way - only one fabric features styled 'Alice' images (below on the right) and another design is based on Alice text (centre top row). It's a great collection of prints that would mix and match well with other fabric designs too.

Windham usually makes it an international giveaway, giving you all a chance to take part, so be sure to stay tuned to the blog.

What Are You Watching?

Great TV in Britain
It must be almost Christmas because Kirstie Allsopp is back on British telly with the third series of Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas.  You'll find it on C4 on Wednesday evenings at 8.00 pm (first episode aired on 7 December)

Great TV in America
The Great American Baking Show started its second season on 1 December showing episodes 1 and 2 back to back.  I could hardly believe my eyes when I tuned in,  one of the judges is our very own British nation's sweetheart, Mary Berry.  If you enjoy awatching Mary's eyes light up at the mention of anything involving alcohol then tune in on Thursdays 9/8c on ABC.

Did You See?
My friend, Caroline Critchfield of Sew Can She, was on PBS's It's Sew Easy TV sharing how to make her Fish Beach Bag.

Winter Mini-Quilt Swap

Last weekend I took my Winter mini-quilt along to the swap at my NYC Metro Modern Quilt Guild meeting.

Take a look at all the mini-quilts together, loving everyone's ideas here.

There's my mini-quilt bottom row, second from the left.and the mini-quilt I took home with me is middle row, second from right, made by Jean and called The December Night Sky.  I love it so much, it's hanging on my kitchen wall.

Everyone enjoyed the swap and the consensus was that we must do one again.

Of the 18 members who took part in the swag bag swap only two members did a direct swap with each other, guess who?!!!

It was a great meeting and I did a photo review of the meeting on the Guild's blog - if you like quilt candy you may want to take a look.

2017 Is Already Fully Booked!!!

My calendar for 2017 is already FULL, yes it's not just full, it's FULL.  Three of the events already filling the pages are quilting retreats and I'm getting excited for them all ready.

The first two retreats are both with the NYC Metro Modern Quilters Guild.  One to Mariandale, NY in January - my daughter, Flicky is home then so she's coming along and I love it when we get to quilt together.  While the second is to Ladore, PA in June.

The third is the one I'm excited to tell you about - I'm going back to Quilting By The Lake.  I was last there in July 2015 and took a class with Cynthia Corbin.  I shared one of the pieces I made during that time at QBL with you earlier this year.

So when I heard that Cynthia was returning to QBL in 2017 to teach studio I registered straight away.  This is the class I'm taking:

Studio with Teacher - Cynthia Corbin
Whether you have the hint of an idea brewing or a full on series in progress, this is your time to focus on your own work.  This class is designed for those students ready for challenging, independent and focused study, as well as problem-solving critiques.  The framework of the class provides time to work intensively, as well as time for in-depth and individual discussion about your work, your direction, and your creative process.  I believe in exploration, experimentation, and practice, practice, practice.  (You could also say process, process, process!)

Quilting By The Lake began in 1981 and is a two-week (you can attend for 2 days to 2 weeks) quilting conference held the last two weeks of July and based in Syracuse, NY.  One of the longest running quilt conferences in the US, all levels and styles of quilter are welcome and classes are offered in design, techniques and surface design.

If you'd like more information about QBL here is their website and also a copy of their 2017 brochure (pdf)
