The importance of an education in Nicaragua

Alondra Guiterez

Alondra is 17 years old and is in the 11th grade. The Nicaraguan school system only goes through the 11th grade so Alondra will graduate this year from high school. This will make a tremendous difference in her life. She wants to study at a University to become an architect, drawing plans to build buildings. Because a person like you made the choice to buy her a uniform, she was able to attend school and now she will have a great chance of getting in to the University program she wants. The uniform and financial help for school that Alondra has received have blessed her tremendously and have inspired her to dream about a successful future.

To those who chose to make a donation toward her schooling she says, “I thank God for you making this possible. If it had not been for your help I would not have been able to go to school.”

Carmen, Alondra’s mom, has three daughters. She has been coming to House of Hope and been out of prostitution for several years. She washes clothes on a scrub board and irons them for a living. Sometimes she is able to sell second hand clothes but the small amount of money she makes would never be enough to provide uniforms and books and supplies in order to send her children to school.

Carmen says,” I thank God for moving in your heart so you could help my daughter study and graduate."

Kenner Mendez

Erika, Kenner’s mom, had a rough childhood.  When she was 13, she went out drinking with some of her school friends and that night she was raped.  After that things got worse. She started in prostitution, drugs, and delinquency. She was in prostitution for 5 years.  During that time she had 3 kids. For the last 8 years, Erika has participated in our program at House of Hope. The Lord has greatly changed her life and she is a new person. Her son Kener Mendez is 15 years old and is in the 10th grade. He has been receiving a school uniform and scholarship through House of Hope.

“This scholarship has helped in many aspects because I go to a vocational-technical high school and many schools don’t offer that. I want to go to college and to become an engineer or study computer engineering and the computer classes I am taking now will really help me.“  He is also taking computer maintenance.  Kenner is the president of the youth group at his church. He says that his school has helped him because their strict rules and manners have taught him how to get along with people better.

Erica says, ”If I had not gotten the help for my son’s studies, he would not be in school.”

You are making a huge difference in Kenner's future.
