What's Happening on the Farm

December UPDATE

Hello everyone!

Our season is winding down! It's a much quieter time of year as everyone on the farm gets a much needed rest.
End of the season! We have stopped milking, which is a much needed break for humans and goats alike. As of this week, we believe that all the goats we planned on breeding are bred. Penny and Poppy did not come into heat, so we are assuming they were bred when the bucks escaped in September when a damn storm knocked down their fence. That means end of February babies which is not ideal, but it is what it is. We will be milking 15 goats this spring- by hand!
Holidays and Copper Tail Farm products! Even though we are no longer making product, we do still have product available! We no longer have yogurt, but we have lots of cajeta (goat milk caramel sauce) and soap, and limited quantities of goat milk fudge. Cajeta makes awesome holiday gifts- they're canned so you don't have to worry about an expiration date, and they don't need to be refrigerated until after you open them. Aside from gifts, you can use cajeta for baking treats for holiday parties- one of my favorites is sugar cookies dipped in cajeta. Or a chocolate caramel tart. Or cajeta cupcakes. Or...the list is endless!!!  Soap also makes great stocking stuffers!
Maple Update We had quite a scare with Maple in November. Her face was wicked swollen, and we didn't know why. I wasn't super concerned about the swelling, until she started acting kind of funny with her bag legs. That is usually a symptom of meningeal worm, which is something that needs to be treated quickly or else you will most likely lose the animal. After a lot of stress and worry, we decided she did NOT have meningeal. Her swelling has since gone down, and it now seems like she just has an abscess (it's NOT CL). We'll just wait for the abscess to run it's course, and then Mapie should be good as new.
