Campaign for Excellence

With a gift to the Friends of the Library’s Campaign for Excellence, you make an extraordinary difference in our community—and keep your Library strong and growing. Your support contributes to a thriving, dynamic Monroe County by:
  • Supporting award-winning Library programs for all ages
  • Building the Library's collections—from books, movies, and music to mobile Wi-Fi hotspots and digital creativity tools
  • Preparing children for success in school through early literacy initiatives, reading programs, and access to new technologies
  • Providing an eAccess library card to every student in Monroe County, enabling access to top-quality Library content in the classroom
Your Library works hard every day to provide equal access to information and technology for the community. Your contribution makes it all possible.

Celebrate Indiana's Bicentennial this Sunday

Indiana’s bicentennial is the focus this Sunday at the Library with some Indiana trivia followed by a special performance celebrating famous Hoosiers.

The day kicks off at the Main Library with Indiana trivia and coloring activities from noon to 2 p.m. We challenge your Hoosier smarts with questions from the Monroe County Timeline, a digital collection of historical local news items and images.

“You can enjoy learning about our heritage here on Sunday, and every day on the Timeline,” said Christine Friesel, a Community Engagement Librarian at the Library. “There are plenty of fascinating facts for all year long.”

After showing off your Hoosier knowledge, join teaching artist and mime Reed Steele for his unique take on Indiana’s cultural contributions with Famous Hoosiers in History: A Theatrical Celebration of Indiana's Heritage. Highlighting the astronauts, comedians, musicians, and athletes who hail from the Hoosier State, Steele performs on Sunday at both the Ellettsville Branch and the Main Library.

“We’re always working to find new ways to bring books to life at the Library,” said Stephanie Holman, Community Engagement Librarian. “We like storytelling that’s humorous and engaging, and Indiana history definitely come alive in Reed’s performances.”

Please register for Famous Hoosiers in History with Reed Steele, it’s 1:30–2:15 p.m. at the Ellettsville Branch -or- 4–4:45 p.m. in the Auditorium at the Main Library.
