RGHS Weekly Bulletin 7 December 2016

After a previous stint as Acting Principal, I likened the experience to raising a child. The role comes with its challenges like nappy changing, dealing with tantrums and other difficult developmental stages, getting up in the night when they are sick, worrying about what could go wrong and if you are doing the right thing. These are the experiences that bring out your strongest maternal instincts and strengthens the love that you feel for your child.

The adverse experiences, however, are far outweighed by the rewards: the excitement of the first words or learning to walk, the shared laughter when doing something fun together, the meaningful conversations about life and the feelings of pride generated by your child's accomplishments, talents and other personal qualities.

All-in-all, one just grows fonder of one's offspring; caring more, becoming fiercely protective and loyal, while developing a stronger bond, and more love and compassion.  With the school as my charge, this year as Acting Principal has been exactly that for me.

We are particularly pleased to share the news that we have a 100% pass rate in Grades 8 to 11 this year. The staff are delighted and proud of the efforts of our girls and I would like to thank them for their part in this achievement.  I hope that our girls have ended the year feeling good about who they are and what they have accomplished this year - be it extramurally, in the classroom, in their friendships or personal development.

This term we say farewell and thank you to Mrs Hoffman, who came in to assist (again) in the front office for six months.  We also say goodbye to two icons of the profession, Ms Sole and Mrs Wallace, who retire after long and dedicated service to education.  Both are subject experts who are highly respected in education circles. They will certainly be missed at Rustenburg and we thank them both for their contribution.

I firmly believe that we should always be mindful of our extremely privileged position and express our gratitude for what it means to be part of this wonderful school.  The staff -  educators, administrative, grounds and cleaning - have done a superb job once again, and I thank them all for their part in the smooth running of the school and in the successes of the past year.

As the year draws to an end, I would like to thank all Rustenburg parents for their contribution and support over the last year - to myself, the school and their daughters.  I wish you a special, meaningful time with your families over the coming holiday period, as well as much fulfilment and happiness in the new year.

Warm regards

Susan Schnetler
Acting Principal

Thank you from the Outgoing SGB Chairman

On behalf of the school, its staff, learners, parents and the School Governing Body, I would like to thank Ms Susan Schnetler, for the leadership she has contributed during the course of this year in her role as Acting Principal.

The interval between Principal appointments can be an uncertain and stressful time, but Ms Schnetler has taken on the role, with confidence and assurance resulting in stability and advancement of the school. I know that this time was longer than initially expected, and has been more difficult than perhaps anticipated, but we have appreciated the positive demeanour and can-do attitude she displayed at all times.

Ms Schnetler, we respect you immensely and simply want to say thank you for your commitment, you excelled amid a very challenging period. I am indeed very proud of being part of this process.

Brian Abdoll
Outgoing SGB Chairman

Grade 9 obstacle course

The Grade 9 girls got to participate in an obstacle course around campus as part of the “end of year programme” at school last week. This was a lovely opportunity to work with different peers other than those in their form classes of the last two years. A big thank you to all the prefects and staff members who assisted and contributed to the success of the event.

There was huge excitement when the new outdoor gym equipment was installed recently. This outdoor gym has been on the cards for some time, and has been, in part, funded by the Matrics of 2016, as their gift to the school. The individual items were chosen in consultation with biokineticist, Aimee Barrett, to make sure that we got the most out of the equipment and that it would be of optimal benefit to our girls, in terms of fitness and strengthening exercises. Our teachers will be using the equipment for sports teams and for outdoor Life Orientation physical movement lessons.
