2016 Women of Influence Forum 
 
More than 260 people attended the 2016 Women of Influence Forum, held on December 6, 2016 at the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria. After Carla Harris of Morgan Stanley got the day off to an exciting start, the remainder of the morning featured multiple panels, presentations and breakout sessions designed to reflect on women’s role in the workforce and the changing nature of work in the 21st century.

Community News
The Illinois General Assembly recently passed an extension of the River Edge Tax Credit for another year. The program provides some tax relief to developers who seek to rehabilitate old properties for modern use. Developers in Peoria have made use of the credit to revitalize the downtown and Warehouse District, creating growth in a formerly underutilized area of the city. 

The Peoria Symphony Orchestra is offering a 2017 Pick-Four Holiday Ticket package option for the remaining concerts of the season. The concerts to select from include Gershwin Matinee on Sunday, January 22nd; Romance on Saturday, February 11th; Nights in the Gardens of Spain on Saturday, March 11th; Heroic Spirit on Saturday April 29th; and Jubilation on Saturday, June 3rd. The City of Peoria announced the launch of the Minority Business Implementation Grant (M-BIG) Program, a business competition for minority business owners to start up or expand their business. Up to six awards from $2,500 to $5,000 are available. The deadline for submissions is January 13, 2017. Applications are now being accepted for the Senior Consulting Project Program at Bradley University. If you are in need of a marketing strategy, feasibility study or strategic growth plan, or wish to start a business, the Turner Center for Entrepreneurship at Bradley University may be able to help. The South Side Office of Concern is recruiting participants for a new event, Gimme Shelter, to raise awareness of the challenges faced by those without homes and raise funds to end homelessness. On Friday, January 13th, community members will spend the night, from 6pm to 6am the following morning, outside the Peoria Civic Center in a cardboard box. Participants are asked to raise $1,000 for the “privilege” of spending the night in a box. Individuals and teams can sign up to participate at ssocpeoria.org.
