What are you working on today?
Starting in January...
Hello, Just Follow Through

If you're like most people, you make your New Year's resolution, it lasts for a few weeks and then somewhere along the line, you fall off.

Look, I get it. I see it all the time and while some people blame lack of passion or motivation, I blame something else.

Lack of knowing how to follow through.

Which isn't your fault! We're too often taught what to learn but not how. So.....starting the first week in January, I'll be hosting a free webinar to share some of the most useful tools I've learned while working in the entertainment industry to help you keep your resolutions and tackle what you want in 2017.

Hey there <<First Name>>,

Just landed back in Los Angeles this past week and truth be told, there's been no shortage of to do's on my list.

Creating Content  - ✔️
Client Work  - ✔️
Packing for a Move - ✔️
Stomach Bug - ✔️ (Ugh!)
Prepping for a Speech - ✔️

All manageable (minus that nasty bug) but it's that last one that got me thinking.

Next week I'm heading over to a local middle school here in LA to share with about 80 kids what I do for a living and why I chose to do it....which naturally got me thinking...

Why do we do what we do?

Sounds like a simple enough question, right?

Sometimes it's because we're good at it. Other times it's to pay the bills. Or maybe it's that we've been doing something for so long that we can't even remember the answer.

For me, as a kid growing up in the midwest, I loved storytelling - specifically television and movies - but where I came from, the idea of actually doing anything remotely related to Hollywood seemed so far fetched to me.

Don't get me wrong, I had an awesome childhood, but quite frankly, we struggled a lot growing up. I was raised by a single mom, we didn't have a car for the majority of my childhood and sometimes our food came from the local food bank.

Naturally, movies, television and music were my escape and I loved how any of these art forms could turn someone's day around. (Specifically my own!)

So when it came to a career, I had decided to do what everyone else thought I was crazy for doing - instead of continuing with my psych degree, I switched to art and enrolled in film school.

Even though I was taking the classes, doing the work and getting good grades - deep down, I still had no idea if I would be able to pull off this master plan of moving to Los Angeles and working in Hollywood.

Which is really why I share this story AND why I do what I do today.

Fine to Feel Unsure

See, just me making it to Hollywood to work in my dream career was a huge deal but no matter how far along you are in whatever it is you're trying to pursue, there will come a time that you'll question yourself.

Am I doing it right?
Can this really work?
What happens if I fail?

Be prepared for these questions to pop up but also know that if you're consistently taking even just baby steps to move forward, you can make it.

Always be Evolving

My career is not something I take for granted. I've worked my tail off to be where I am and I love it... but after I while I  kept getting this gnawing feeling.

I was working along side some of them most talented and creative minds I'd ever met. Writers, directors, fellow producers - all who could "out-create" me if there ever was a competition!

They would share their ideas with me about books they wanted to write, movies they wanted to make, businesses they wanted to build and I'd get excited for them and cheer them on but when our paths would cross again on the next project, I'd find they hadn't made much progress.

They were still in the same spot!

And this started to scare me. If these incredibly successful creatives couldn't get their projects off the ground, what hope was there for the rest of us? So I started to dissect.

I asked questions. I poked around and what I found was that 80% of them just didn't have the follow-through for their own projects like they did for the ones they were being professionally paid to do.

This was the reason their amazing ideas were falling short and not being completed which to me, was a waste of incredible talent.

And that's why I do what I do today which is help creatives learn how to focus and follow through on their projects, business ideas and even lifestyle changes.

So let me ask you now - click reply and tell me why do you do what you do?!

And....for those of you who are looking to up your game in 2017, I'm hosting a free webinar the week of January 2nd 2017. To sign up, click here.

Cheers to a productive rest of the week!
Dom
