The 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the South Island of New Zealand, on 14 November 2016 caused significant damage to the central part of the Bath House building in which Rotorua Museum is housed. The decision was made to close the Museum to the public, pending further investigation. At this stage Rotorua Museum is closed until at least April 2017.

In the meantime Museum staff have successfully relocated scheduled events and exhibitions...
On loan from the Museum of Leonardo da Vinci in Florence, Italy, this amazing interactive exhibition brings together replicas of more than 80 machines and robots devised over 500 years ago by Leonardo da Vinci.

An annual favourite, the Rotorua Museum Community Christmas Tree is back and ready to receive your gifts at Rotorua Library.

After last years overwhelming success, we are again seeking donated gifts for a great cause - Waiariki Women’s Refuge.

In the spirit of turning a misfortune into an opportunity, Rotorua Museum is offering free ‘outside the walls’ guided tours.

Weather dependent, the tour takes in the beautiful grounds surrounding the Museum. Learn some of the interesting history of battles, buildings and the Government Gardens.

Come join the last of our Da Vinci Days and learn how Leonardo used code to keep his inventions secret.

At Da Vinci Does Code, kids of all ages can create their own secret messages using invisible ink, mirror codes, symbol codes, cryptex and spiral decoders.
