Several years back, on a trip to Israel, I visited a cave that is believed to be one of the possible locations of Jesus' birth. While I was there, I thought about what it would have been like if I were a shepherd the night the whole sky was suddenly filled with angels announcing Jesus's birth. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (Luke 2:14) I hope that I would have been like the shepherds and the wise men who sought out this precious child to worship Him.
After visiting the cave, I held an evening concert at a coffee shop in Bethlehem. Singing mostly to Palestinians, and not sure of how my lyrics were coming across to those who understood English, I interrupted my set list and explained, "I want to be sure that you don't think I'm trying to force Jesus on you. If anything, you are getting an inside look into the heart of a simple girl who loves Jesus and wants others to know His love, too." I say this to you, as well. While the exact location and date of Jesus' birth remains unknown, know that He loves you exactly where you are and exactly right now and forever. His mission of being born to die was so that He could cover you in His grace and bring you into ultimate and eternal freedom. I encourage you to CELEBRATE the amazing gift of love and to worship Him with your whole life! Happy Birthday Jesus!
