Sorry for the quietness recently (or perhaps, sorry for breaking the silence!). I’ve been in Europe securing some new products, and have been fortunate enough to spend a little time with Krista and Hannu, the management team of Vipukirves Heikki Oy. VHO, you might know, are the manufacturers of the amazing Leveraxe. I can now share some great news about the future of the Leveraxe.

Based on the excellent safety features and efficiency of the Leveraxe, we have enjoyed very good sales. However, we recognise that the Leveraxe has been quite expensive - making things in Finland is expensive! Fortunately, VHO have found a factory in Mexico that can make the Leveraxe just as well, but for significantly lower costs.

So, what’s changed?

We’ve kept the good features…

We’ve kept the same innovative, patented design and will engineer the blade from high quality, medium carbon SAE 1045 steel. The blade design hasn’t changed: same weight, same design, same warranty.

But we’ve improved what we could…

The handle is now made from premium hickory sourced from the USA. Hickory has long been the first choice for axe handles, especially in North America. Hickory is strong, shock absorbing, and has a nice texture. The handle is still a reverse tapered and finished black. However, we’ve stopped using yellow on the end - while it was useful, it added significantly to the production costs.

And made it cheaper!

Usually, “improvements” means higher prices. The Leveraxe is now an even better tool, just cheaper.

The Leveraxe 1.3 is now just $169

The short version:

• We’re releasing a new model, the Leveraxe 1.3.
• It’s the same, except it’s now made in Mexico, and has a USA Hickory handle.
• It will retail for $169.
• It will be available for pre-order from 8 December 2016 until 8 January 2016 for $159.

Anything else?

We’ll no longer offer free shipping as standard. We’ve using Australia Post to dispatch items now, and we’ll offer you the best price that we can when you check out. 

This also means that we’ll be reducing the prices of the other Leveraxe models. We’ll also add some more special editions, such as Bee Waxed Ash Handled Leveraxe 2.
