Deadline for GPs to apply to participate in Suspected Neurological Conditions Guideline Targeted Consultation ends Friday 16th Dec
If you would like to take part in a targeted engagement in 2017 before the main stakeholder consultation takes place, which takes place from the 23 January to 17th February, the application deadline is tomorrow 5pm Friday 16 December. You need to submit your CV and declarations of interest form, which you will be able to download from here. Details of where to send your CV and form can be found via the same link.

New Commissioning Approach to Reduce Unplanned Neurology-related Admissions  
The London Neuroscience Clinical Network is proposing a new commissioning approach to address these issues and raise the quality and efficiency of services for people with neurological conditions. Here are links to three papers describing developed interlocking models examining new approaches to:
Community Neurorehab in the East Midlands - Commissioning Guidance Review
The East Midlands Clinical Networks have a just published a report from a meeting they ran earlier in 2016 which examined the impact of 'Community-based rehabilitation of people with long-term neurological conditions - Commissioning guidance and sample service specification’, a document they launched in November 2015. The purpose of the meeting was to provide participants with an opportunity to reconvene, network, share learning and progress and ascertain the extent to which the commissioning guidance had informed work in their geographical areas.  To read the report click here.

Right Care - using CCG data profiles to support neurology system and delivery improvements
This was the focus of a recent meeting held with the London Neurology Clinical Network, with an excellent example from Dr Fergus Rugg-Gunn of how it may be possible to reshape services to deliver a more efficient neurology care in the community. Neurology in Primary Care 
The Primary Care Neurology Society along with the SW and SE Thames Faculties of the RCGP ran the second of this year's Neurology Study Days last week on the 8th of Dec at the Gatwick Holiday Inn. The programme covered a range of neurology topics relevant to General Practice, including an update on 'Parkinson's - focusing on the non motor symptoms' with Dr Neil Munro. Dr Nassif Mansour, Chair of the P-CNS and GPwSI in neurology will lead a practical session on neurology in General Practice. To view the slide presentations from the study day click here

Education and training

Mental Capacity Assessment - Getting it right!, Thurs 26th Jan, Peterborough
Lead by two leading experts in the field, Michael Mandelstam, independent legal trainer and consultant and Mark Jayes, a speech and language therapist since 2003, this practical workshop will help you get to grips with assessment of mental capacity, including an overview of common communication disorders and how these can impact on mental capacity.

Learning how to use the Therapy Outcome Measure, Thurs 2nd Feb, London
This workshop, lead by Prof Pam Enderby, will enable participants to be able to select an appropriate outcome measure for their clinical practice. Delegates go away with a greater understand of how best to collect and measure outcomes data on clients receiving treatments. The day includes both theoretical and practical components.
