Community Data Program
Notes to the most recent meetings for the Data Purchase and Access Working Group (DPAWG) and Training and Capacity Building Working Group (TCBWG) can be found on the website. DPAWG discussed data acquisition for income inequality tables and taxfiler custom cross-tabulations, and TCBWG looked at additional webinars for training and capacity-building.
Canadian Council on Social Development
New infographics designed by the CCSD are coming in the new year! There will be six new templates free for CDP member use: immigration, health, inequality, poverty (taxfiler and census) and transportation.
Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW)
The Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) launched its 3rd national report: How are Canadians really doing? The report compared eight domains of wellbeing from 1994 to 2014 and found a massive gap between GDP and our wellbeing.
Statistics Canada's independence
On December 7, a bill was proposed to reinforce Statistics Canada's independence through legislative amendments to the Statistics Act. Some targeted amendments include removing the threat of imprisonment for those who refused the surveys, creating an Advisory Council and transferring census records to the Library and Archives Canada.
Enough for All Campaign
Enough for All's aim is to cut poverty in half in Calgary by 2023. This will be done by building strong communities, helping people thrive, developing the Indigenous Strategy, and providing supports and resources. This campaign is a collaborative effort partnered with Vibrant Communities Calgary, the United Way, the Calgary Foundation, Momentum, the City of Calgary, and more.
