Take Action: Help Build Our Global Network Against Poverty

Dear ASAP member,

Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP) is a global non-profit organization that mobilizes academia to fight poverty through collaboration, research and outreach. The ASAP network is unique in its focus on helping poverty-focused academics reach broader audiences and turn their expertise into impact through collaborative intervention projects. As a valued member of this network, we invite you to help academics around the world influence the poverty debate for the better by contributing to ASAP's work.

ASAP is a truly global association: with a strong presence among universities and academics in the global South, we focus on creating opportunities for those who face barriers to full participation in global academic dialogue. Our 17 national chapters link likeminded professors, students and researchers around the world and provide platforms for intervention in both national and regional policy contexts.

ASAP’s network has continued to grow in recent years through new national chapters in Ireland, Chile, West Africa and Cambodia. Our chapters have made significant contributions to policy discussions in their countries by conducting poverty audits prior to national elections, such as in Australia in 2013 and 2016, and in the UK and Canada in 2015. ASAP also hosts the Global Colleagues program, which has been instrumental in providing peer to peer mentoring between academics in the global North and South, and an annual global justice conference (most recently at Yale in October 2016).

All of this has been done on a tight budget. While the global ASAP network has received generous donations from the Fredrick Mulder Foundation in the UK, we need to supplement this core grant if we are to further establish ASAP as a credible and effective long-term platform against poverty and injustice. This is why we are offering you the opportunity to invest directly in our success and help sustain both our national chapters and our coordinating work at the global level.

Our priorities in the coming year are to strengthen our chapter network and implement the technology necessary for widespread inter-chapter collaboration, thus empowering members to launch collaborative projects. Your financial support is vital for our success at this critical juncture, as we work to grow ASAP into a major global voice against poverty and injustice for many years to come.

We thank you in advance for your generosity and wish you a healthy and productive new year.

Best wishes,

ASAP Executive Director Team:
Helen Yanacopulos, The Open University
Jason Hickel, London School of Economics
Cat Tully, Strategist and Independent Consultant
