Research Reputation Rising at UD

The University of Dayton's research reputation is national, according to recently released National Science Foundation (NSF) statistics from 2015. The University ranks No. 2 in the nation in federally funded materials research and development and third for all materials research and development — ahead of research powerhouses MIT, Princeton, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Ohio State. Ken Bloemer Wins Outstanding Faculty Award

Ken Bloemer, director of the Visioneering Center and faculty member in the School of Engineering, was notified by The Kern Family Foundation of his selection as 2016 Outstanding Faculty Member for his work at UD and within the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN). The award will be presented at the 2017 KEEN National Conference on Jan. 6 in Jacksonville, Fl.

Sumo Bot Competition Draws Crowd to KL

Tim Reissman, a first-year faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, wanted to give his students in MEE 434 a hands-on assignment that would challenge their engineering and innovation skills. Dayton Sumo Bot was born.

Grad Students Receive Awards to Study Energy at Emerson's Helix

Two University of Dayton graduate students received $50,000 each to work in a U.S. Department of Energy program with researchers at Emerson's Helix Innovation Center on the University of Dayton campus.
 
Kefan Huang, in the renewable and clean energy program, is focused on enhancing Department of Energy software to better distribute heating, ventilation and air conditioning loads in light commercial buildings and residences using renewable energy power systems. Optimizing energy loads in real time will reduce energy costs.

Electrical engineering student Ashsish Gogia is attempting to achieve a zero-energy smart home with green technologies and storage and energy management systems. Read the full article.
