Winter Service Projects

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN – Gathering at the Libertyville packing site on Saturday, January 7 from 9 to 11. For everyone age 5 and up. Sign up online on the group volunteer website under "Christ Lutheran." For more information, visit www.FMSC.org or contact Penni Sauer at penry4@gmail.com.

PROJECT WARMTH – Gathering blankets, sleeping bags, socks, gloves, soap, toothpaste, lotion, granola bars – anything to bring comfort to those living on Chicago’s streets. (No razors or mouthwash.) Items do not have to be new or perfect – volunteers will clean and mend, and many are used as an important layer on top of the cold street. We'll deliver in January/February. Let us know if you would like to join our delivery group.

MITTEN TREE – Gathering hats, mittens, scarves, etc. for children of Lake County Courts and A Safe Place. Hand made, store bought, gently used – they all help kids stay warm. Collection bin is in the hall.

ANNOUNCEMENTS!
Visit our website for more info on all of these activities.

Please do not feel pressured to give time, talent or resources. We offer these opportunities as ways that we as a community of Christ can use our blessings to bless others. Joy - not guilt! The most important offering you can give is your prayers. Thank you.

Manna Gift Card Orders Due Sunday
Order by Sunday for Holiday Gift Giving!
The Manna Program supports non-profit organizations by giving a portion of purchases back to the group to support our church and school. Dozens of national and local vendors participate in the program that gives anywhere from 2 to 25 percent back to us. Are you giving gift cards to teachers this holiday season? Manna gives you the same gift card you can buy at the store, but Christ Lutheran will get a percentage back. Great for gifts, and for your own shopping – if you shop at Jewel, for instance, you can buy your shopping cards ahead and use them just like cash. You can order with a
paper form and a check made out to "Christ Lutheran" or go right online (www.mannaorders.net) and set up an account. Our organization number is 2384, and volunteer Penni Sauer (penry4@gmail.com) can provide you with a family log in code and further assistance. Cards arrive in about a week.

COOL Ministries – Meat & Soup
Or any non-perishable items/donations
The need for emergency assistance continues to grow, and COOL (Christian Outreach of Lutherans) does so much to help all who come to them at their Waukegan-based ministries. Each month we focus on one type of nonperishable item, but all items are welcomed (baskets in the hallway). For December, we are gathering non-perishable meats (tuna, spam, etc.); for January, canned soup – or any non-perishable item. Check the Cool Ministries website –
coolministries.org – for more information as well as on-line donation opportunities.

ELCA Good Gifts Catalog
Give a gift that sustains a community
Perfect for the person who has everything – an item from the
ELCA Good Gifts Catalog. Chickens, goats, bees – even a fish farm. Every gift helps sustain a family and an entire community.

Advent Devotions
Matthew 24 Liberated by God's Grace
Consider this series of Advent devotions prepared by leaders of the Lutheran and Anglican churches.

Lutheran Disaster Relief
Helping victims of floods, earthquakes, unrest
Lutheran Disaster Response is part of our larger church's effort to bring comfort and safety to the world. It is known as one of the most effective and efficient relief organizations in the world. Workers have been helping Gulf Coast flood victims since that crisis began, and they are already heading to Italy to support earthquake victims. If you would like to support this effort, donate through the ELCA Disaster Response website.

Sunday Service @ 9:30 a.m.

  • We are casual – Church clothes are whatever you have on.
  • We are welcoming – You need not be a Lutheran or a member to participate fully and receive communion. We ask that you feel the desire for a relationship with Jesus.
  • We are multi-generational – Our congregation represents all ages and backgrounds. We enjoy being together and supporting each other as a family.
  • We celebrate children – Kids are always welcome in worship. Mid-service activities are available most Sundays for kids PreK-5th grade.
  • We are volunteer-driven – Thank you for your service. You'll find the Sunday  Volunteer List  on our website.

O Come, O Come Emmanuel!
The season of Advent encompasses the four Sundays before Christmas. In the midst of the busy-ness of life, we pray that we may all find a moment to sit quietly and reflect on the real Reason for the Season. May God bless you!
