Friday Feature: SNTI Content Strands
The START National Training Institute (SNTI) is structured to provide a customized learning experience tailored to the interests and educational goals of every attendee. Each attendee will have the opportunity to select afternoon breakout sessions from five different content strands:
  • Positive Approaches & Cultural Competency
  • Children & Families
  • Networking & Capacity Building
  • Psychiatry & Primary Health
  • Health & Wellness
In advance of the release of our 2017 SNTI Program, we want to share a sampling of the topics and concepts that will be highlighted in each strand.

Positive Approaches & Cultural Competency
Interactive workshops on psychodrama, trauma informed care, and the power of positive regard. Nationally recognized expert will delve into implications of cultural and linguistic competency for individuals with IDD and their families.

Children & Families
Look forward to learning about supporting positive behavior changes, sharing innovative approaches to promote social change, the importance of diagnostic clarity and assessment in children with IDD, and gaining positive tools for supporting parents.

Networking & Capacity Building
Hear from multiple representatives of START programs regarding positive outcomes associated with their respective START programs. You will learn about creative and engaging strategies to enhance learning among professionals, and gain valuable skills to help establish professional partnerships aimed at enhancing capacity.

Psychiatry & Primary Health
Each breakout session within this strand offers an MD presenter speaking on topics such as ASD and common comorbidities, addressing irritability, new trends in psychopharmacology, and the state of evidence in psychopharmacology for both adults and children with IDD.

Health & Wellness
Sessions within this content strand will emphasize creating a healthy work environment and establishing a healthy work-life balance. START’s Therapeutic Center’s role in promoting health and wellness will be discussed as well as ways to teach and promote healthy lifestyles in effective and creative ways. Interventions for sensory integrations will also be addressed.
Thanks for reading and happy Friday,
