Residents Parking Scheme Renewal?
Roger has been asked as to how residents will they be notified when their three year parking permit expires?
From Paul Bowman, Team Manager (Parking Services) :

A standard ‘permit renewal’ letter is automatically issued from Parking Services through the Mi-permit system a month or so prior to the expiry date of the existing permit. In the majority of cases, residents living in the Cheylesmore schemes will receive a letter in June 2018, prior to the expiry of the current permit in July 2018.

New Tiverton School Update
From the "New Tiverton Delivery Team" for Coventry City Council which consists of Council Officers, the designers and also the builders:

Weekly update: Friday 16th December 2016

Whitley Abbey Primary School is now on their Christmas break.

Farrans will continue to have a site presence and additional security will be in place over the holiday period.

The whole delivery team would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and best wishes for 2017.

Bin Collection Calendar
Roger has been asked about the bin collection timetable over the Christmas period.

The crews will be working between Christmas & New Year and bins will be collected on your usual day.

By now you should have received your new calendar with the dates of the bin collection. If you haven’t then you can download one by clicking here & entering then confirming your road.

Or why not download the ‘Your Rubbish’ App to your smart phone?

Dillotford Avenue Pavements (Daventry Road to the Chesils)
A resident has sent Roger a comprehensive list of the poor state of repair of the pavements along Dillotford Avenue. Roger has passed this on to the officers in charge. Hopefully it will be included in a future budget for repair.

Cheylesmore Library Volunteers
We’ve now had 26 people express an interest in volunteering to enable the library to be kept open. The next volunteers meeting is on Monday 23rd January at 3pm

If you are interested in volunteering to help keep the library open then please email: cheylesmore.ward@gmail.com.
The more volunteers that we have then the longer the opening hours can be.

Finham Library Action Group (FLAG)
Copied from Streetlife:
A week last Monday the Finham Library Action Group (FLAG) was formed. By concerned residents and members of various community groups who want to save the library from closure.

Shortly a leaflet will go out to every resident in Finham to request voluntary support and ask how we can use the library building to make it financially sustainable.

Any idea and comments are appreciated, because if we don't act by April 2017 the library WILL be marked for closure.

Cheylesmore Ward - 2013 Household Survey
The Household Survey is conducted every year asking a sample of residents from across the City questions about their neighbourhoods and communities, health, well-being and lifestyles. The sample is designed to allow for comparison between wards and with the city average. There were 2,208 responses to the 2013 Household Survey.

In Cheylesmore Ward there were 105 responses from residents. Cheylesmore residents are the least likely Ward in the City (63%) to say that their General health is good – compared to 76% for the City as a whole
Fewer Cheylesmore residents (9%) find it difficult to cope with their current income compared to the City as a whole (16%)

Hogs’ Rest Hedgehog Rescue
Roger visited “Hogs Rest” this week with newspapers & food. Hogs Rest is the only Hedgehog Rescue for Coventry and the surrounding areas. Currently there are 170 hedgehogs being overwintered until the Spring when they will be released back into our countryside. Over 20 of these little creatures came from the Cheylesmore area.
It is run entirely by volunteers with donations and fundraising. They are most in need of:
  • - dog & cat food in jelly (not fish based or in gravy - the salt content is too high),
  • - cat biscuits (not fish flavoured),
  • - newspapers
  • - bin liners
Donations can be taken to the Allesley Park Community Centre office - tel 7671 5150.
For more information go to the Facebook page - Hogs Rest Hedgehog Rescue or visit their website
Sadly, the UK hedgehog population is decreasing at an alarming rate. If you see a hedgehog out in the day it needs your help. Please ACT QUICKLY.
For emergency enquiries please call 07866 376 817

Coventry Local Plan - Transport Modelling Update
Last week's transport plan has since been updated.
From Lisa Albrighton, Programme Officer:
I can now confirm dates for the hearings scheduled for January 2017.
  • Additional Transport Modelling will be on the 17th January
  • Plan Monitoring and Implementation will be on the 18th January
Both hearings will start at 09:30. The deadline for statement submissions, as you will see from the attached document, is 9th January. The Inspector will prepare agendas for the final sessions – they will be general in nature so if people want to start sending in statements they do not need to wait until the agendas have been published.

Give the Gift of Reading this Christmas
Copied from Streetlife
Beanstalk is a children's literacy charity. We recruit, train and support reading helpers to go into schools and help children who are falling behind with their reading. We are making an appeal for individuals in the local community who would love to support children one-to- one with their reading.

Reading is one of the most crucial parts of learning for any child to be successful academically and also in every day tasks. However, many primary school children are unable to read to the required level.

Beanstalk aims to change this through placing trained reading helpers into local primary schools to provide consistent one-to-one support to improve reading levels, increase overall confidence and help children gain the vital literacy skills they need to succeed in education, employment and life.

Our volunteers are vital to help us to support more children across Coventry. If you have a passion for reading and can share this with a child then please make contact to offer your time to this important cause.

Beanstalk is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

To find out more, see:  www.beanstalkcharity.org.uk or telephone 0121 771 2922.

Work Experience at Belgrade Theatre
The Belgrade Theatre opens its doors once a year to offer young people of secondary school age the opportunity to come into the theatre and see for themselves the range of careers available in the performing arts industry. Opportunities include talking to arts professionals, participating in a workshop on a specific role and watching a live production rehearsal.

Work experience:
The Belgrade’s Community & Education team support local young people aged 16+ in providing work experience opportunities. This is a rolling programme that offers young people the chance to engage in a work based placement designed to give the student basic knowledge and skills for working in the theatre industry. Depending on what projects the team are working on at the time, the young person will be given tasks on a daily basis that:
  • Engage their creative minds.
  • Increase critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Directly contribute to the Belgrade’s current projects.
The young person will also be given the chance to work with various departments throughout the theatre, allowing them to get an all-around experience of what it is like to work in a theatrical environment. If you’ve got someone interested in work experience then please email ceapprentice@belgrade.co.uk and ask for a form.
